2012 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Interested in Ryan Tannehill?

Today is April Fool’s Day, but the Philadelphia Eagles’ interest in Ryan Tannehill appears to true. According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, the Eagles are the team that has shown the most interest in Tannehill this offseason, with the Browns and the Dolphins still keeping an eye on the Aggies’ player.

Miller claims that’s what he heard from people close to Tannehill.

The Eagles have their starting quarterback in Michael Vick, and they signed Trent Edwards back in February as Vick’s backup. Mike Kafka is also on the roster, and heading to his third year as a pro, he’ll probably be aiming to win the backup spot from Edwards.

Apparently, there is no need for a new quarterback in Philadelphia. Vick will be 32 this year, and the Eagles must start thinking of the life after him. However, they are not in a hurry to get their future signal-caller.

Ryan Tannehill is regarded as the third-best quarterback of the 2012 NFL draft class, although there are some pundits that do not share this opinion. He is projected to be picked in the top 10. Cleveland and Miami are looking like the most probable destinations for Tannehill.

The Eagles’ interest in Tannehill is bizarre, because even if they are planning to draft him, they’ll have to trade up to at least get ahead of the Dolphins in the draft order. That’s too much of a cost for Philly, especially now that Jason Peters is sidelined.

It’s hard to imagine that the Eagles will trade up, sacrificing at least two 2012 draft picks (not to mention any future first-rounders) to draft a quarterback who’s not an extraordinary prospect. They need a lot more an offensive tackle, a defensive tackle and a linebacker than Tannehill.

Andy Reid must do his best to bring the Eagles back to the playoffs this year. That said, the interest in Tannehil should better be as an April Fool’s joke than an actual scenario.
