Brittney Griner vs Robert Griffin III: Who Would Win in a Dunk Contest?
It's good to be a fan of Baylor these days. Between Robert Griffin III and Brittney Griner, the school boasts two of the best athletes in collegiate sports this year.
So hey, why not pit the two in a dunk contest? Wouldn't that be awesome?
It most certainly would be. And we may get to see it. From ESPN:
"Brittney Griner, The Associated Press women's basketball Player of the Year, said Heisman Trophy winner and fellow Baylor star Robert Griffin III has challenged her to a dunk contest.
"Yes, he did and I told him I'm going to dunk on him," she said Saturday at the Final Four in Denver.
It won't happen until after Griner's senior year in 2013, however, and by that time Griffin will have a year under his belt in the NFL.
"
I've got to go with Griffin on this one, though I think Griner will put up a good fight. While Griner has the obvious height advantage (she's 6'8"; he's 6'2"), Griffin is the more explosive athlete. His 39-inch vertical jump at the NFL combine and background as a hurdles star make him a formidable opponent.
Still, we've actually seen Griner dunk in an game, which can't be ignored.
That, and she is an impressive athlete. If you've never seen ESPN's Sports Science on her, well, get ready to be impressed.
Besides his explosiveness, what pushes me toward Griffin is that I think he's more flexible in the air, allowing him to contort his body in ways needed for more creative dunks. I don't think Griner will be able to pull off the more acrobatic dunks Griffin might have in store.
But Griner will show up—you can bet on that. The way she throws down with serious power means she may have some rim-rattling dunks up her sleeve.
Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets will remain Linsane in tribute.
