The Problem with Randy Moss

Ron JohnsonMay 8, 2007
IconPeople are apparently getting the wrong idea about my feelings on Randy Moss.
I'm going on record here and saying that everyone's right: Randy Moss is not a lame duck...when he backs up his words.
Moss was a nightmare receiver (in a good way) when he was a Minnesota Viking. But things went south when Daunte Culpepper got hurt, and the Vikes were happy to oblige Moss' demands for a change of scenery. He arrived in Oakland with high hopes of reviving his career...and you can ask any Raiders fan how that turned out.

First, he has no respect for his teammates or his team. (Sound like a certain Cowboys receiver we all know and love?) More to the point, he's just not that good anymore. For all you Moss lovers out there, riddle me this:
If Randy's so spectacular, why was he only worth a fourth-round pick? And why did he put up such meager numbers during his short stay in Oakland?
Maybe it's just that age is catching up with him.
Now, I've never been a Patriots fan. And I've had enough of listening to everyone on ESPN call New England a dynasty. Are you crazy?! The Steelers, the Bulls, the Cowboys, the 49ers, the Yankees—those were dynasties. The Patriots have won three of the last six Super Bowls. That's hardly worth a victory cigar.
I singled out the Patriots after the draft because they picked up two guys from the University of Miami (a school notorious for producing thugs) and grabbed Moss along the way. If Pats fans had any sense of reality, they wouldn't be so anal about someone speaking his mind.
The Patriots are on the hot seat because they decided to sacrifice a draft pick for a receiver who hasn't lived up to his potential since he left Minnesota. The Pats might win the Super Bowl in a few years, but Bill Belichick won't be there to see it.
For now, New England's still got to get by the Colts. Can Moss overcome the controversy in Foxboro? Maybe—but why should he have to? If Randy's so good, we should see Moss and Brady holding hands and giving each other hair tips (Randy on how to cornrow, Tom on how to frost).
We should also see another Super Bowl trophy in the case at Gillette Stadium. If not, then what I've said will be true: The Moss trade was a bust, and Pats fans played the dynasty card too soon.
As for the enemies I've made along the way: Get used to it. I'll be firing like there's no tomorrow. K-Warner, Randy, Daniel, Patsfan, Holla Man, and Andy—you gentlemen have earned the title of Dee Dee Dee-umbass!
Enjoy this one boys. I know did.
