Fantasy Baseball Draft Strategy: Veteran Players Guaranteed to Produce

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

New York Yankees star Mariano Rivera is one veteran player who, year after year, is guaranteed to perform at a high level.

These players are among the safest picks you can make in your fantasy baseball draft. While it's good to take chances on players who could have breakout seasons, it's necessary to select some players who you know will produce.

Let's look at three veterans guaranteed to produce this season.

Michael Young, Texas Rangers

The 35-year-old third baseman is one of the most consistent hitters in the American League and hit a career high .338 last season.

He also bats in a very talented lineup with star hitters such as Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler giving him a lot of protection.

Young will bat over .300 again, score at least 80 runs, and be a consistent performer throughout the season in one of baseball's best lineups.

Lance Berkman, St. Louis Cardinals

The veteran first baseman is still a quality hitter and will bat high in the St. Louis Cardinals batting order.

Last year he batted over. 300, which I think would be hard for him to do again this season. However, there's no reason Berkman cannot hit over 25 home runs and bat in 90 runs or more.

As one of the most consistent hitters for a decade, expect Berkman to give fantasy owners another productive season at the plate.

Mariano Rivera, New York Yankees

People keep expecting the future Hall of Fame closer to finally regress and show his age, but the Yankees star keeps disappointing them.

Last year, Rivera had 44 saves, which was 11 more than his 2010 total. His strikeout total in 2011 was also better than his 2010 total. Rivera is once again a lock for 35-plus saves and a solid ERA with a sub-1.00 WHIP.

With improving stats, great confidence, and the luxury of playing on one of baseball's teams, Rivera is ready for another awesome season in 2012.
