Real Madrid Transfer Rumours: 10 Biggest Names Linked to the Bernabeu so Far

Thomas AtzenhofferApr 5, 2012

Real Madrid have made waves through the past few decades of trying to buy their way to the top through multiple generations of "Galacticos."

At the moment, all their money spending looks to be paying off, as they are comfortably ahead of arch-rivals FC Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table and are in the last grouping of the UEFA Champions League.

This summer, there is no doubt that they will break the bank once more to continue to bring in the best talent that they can buy.

With no shortage of those big-money purchases coming in, here are the 10 biggest that are currently circulating in the press.

Gareth Bale

Tottenham's Welsh sensation, Gareth Bale, has been linked with both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the recent months.

Recently, it was revealed by The Sports Review that Bale insists that he turned down a move to Manchester United to move to Spurs a few years ago, but that loyalty to is looking to be tested this summer.

Barcelona are reported to have been taken aback by the Lily White's valuation of their prise left winger, and it now looks as if Real Madrid is emerging as the favorites for his signature, according to Goal.com.

Sergio Aguero

Conflicting reports over the future of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero continue to circulate in the press.

The Manchester Evening News has claimed that the Argentine sensation is not going to be leaving the Citizens anytime soon.

However, the Daily Mail and the Guardian are still standing by their belief that Agureo is the subject of an impending swap agreement for fellow Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Robin Van Persie

Arsenal are threatened with the thought of losing star striker and club captain Robin Van Persie over the summer or next summer if he refuses to sign an extended contract or new deal with the club.

Despite the belief that his loyalty is only for the Gunners, another season without any silverware continues to make it increasingly hard to take it at the Emirates.

The Daily Express has stated that Real Madrid are set to offer £25 million for the Dutchman to come to Spain.

That same belief is also being reported by Caught Offside.

However, Manchester City are thought be in the process of making a massive £210,000-a-week deal to the potent attacker in attempts to hijack any chance of him leaving England.

Carlos Tevez

4 of 11

Carlos Tevez is without a doubt still a ticking time bomb at Manchester City.

He may not have gotten his way and left the club this past summer or winter transfer season, but he is still looking for an exit in the future.

Real Madrid could offer him that at a cut rate if Roberto Mancini is still willing to take offers for the want-away forward, according to the Daily Mirror.

Edin Dzeko

Once again, yet another Manchester City striker is being linked with Real Madrid as the latest reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Edin Dzeko is now also a possible target for the Blanco's.

After finally seeming to have found his scoring boots in England, Dzeko has still never garnered the time on the pitch he so desires and could be looking to take his leave from Eastlands and head south to Madrid.

Raul Meireles

6 of 11

Raul Meireles once again looks to be the target of transfer speculation for a major club.

His move to Liverpool at the start of the 2010-11 season did not get as much respect as it deserved considering his contribution to the club in their run-in under Kenny Dalglish.

Despite his improved form at Liverpool, he moved to Chelsea at the beginning of 2011-12 to link up with former FC Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas.

With AVB now out of the picture, Meireles could be willing to make a move, and Real Madrid are thought to be in line for that opportunity, according to Total Football Madness.

Thibaut Courtois

7 of 11

Young Chelsea-owned goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is being rumored as Real Madrid's pick to be Iker Casillis' understudy.

Chelsea managed to pull off a huge signing in the youngster from Genk last season, and his standout performance on-loan to Atletico Madrid this season has only seen the 19-year-old's stock skyrocket.

Madrid are keen to bring him into the fold, according to the Daily Mirror, with Jose Mourinho adamant about his desire to prise the youngster away from his former club.

Lucas Moura

8 of 11

Real Madrid are working at fending off any chance that Manchester United nor Chelsea have at signing young Brazilian Lucas Moura.

Reports in El Centrocampista claim that United and Chelsea are doing what they can to sway the youngster their direction.

Metro claims that talks have already began between the player and both the English Premier League clubs.

However, Talk Sport believes that the players massive buyout clause has only Real Madrid with the financial power to sign the player.

Yann M'Vila

9 of 11

Real Madrid are thought to be looking at a summer transfer for French defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila.

The player is thought to have his eye on a move to either Arsenal or Real Madrid, according to Fox Sports, while Inside Futbol believes he could be leaning more towards the Gunners than Madrid.

Kyle Walker

10 of 11

Kyle Walker looks at a possible dream move if the rumors that Real Madrid could be chasing him to fill the boots of Arvarlo Arbeloa over the summer come true.

With the Spanish club looking to be out of faith for Arbeloa, Walker could be drafted in to cover the flank and take on the biggest stage of his career.

Glen Johnson of Liverpool is also on their minds, according to the Daily Mail, and would be a more veteran replacement than Walker, but also much more pricey.

Conclusion

Madrid as always are famous for buying the best and most expensive they can find on the market.

Once again this summer, we wait to see just what kind of outlay the Spanish giants will use in pursuit of hopeful dominance over FC Barcelona and Europe.
