John Cena vs. The Rock: Predictions for Both Superstars Following WrestleMania

Mike ChiariMar 28, 2012

With what is being billed as the biggest match of all-time on the horizon between John Cena and The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII, it's tough to look much further than that at this point. Even so, it is extremely interesting to think about what both Cena and Rock might be doing after April 1.

After all, there aren't too many places either man can go after such a huge spectacle without it being a letdown. I've waffled back and forth with regards to who might come out victorious, but let's assume that the majority is correct in this instance and that Cena will win.

Taking that under consideration, here is what you can expect to see from both Cena and Rock in the days, weeks and months following WrestleMania XXVIII.

The Rock Will Return to Acting Until SummerSlam

Seeing as The Rock has so many endeavors in Hollywood, it isn't realistic to expect him to hang around for long following WrestleMania. Despite the fact that so many fans misinterpreted what he said when he originally returned, he isn't a full-time performer. He will always be available to Vince McMahon if he needs a ratings boost at some point, but at this juncture in his life, The Rock is an actor first and a wrestler second.

It's inevitable that many fans will complain when he returns to acting, but anybody who was expecting something different was out of line. Even though he isn't going to be on WWE programming on a weekly basis, The Rock's involvement with the company will do wonders, as he will once again be touting the WWE in the public realm. Just because The Rock won't hang around after WrestleMania, it doesn't mean that he won't be back, though. He most definitely will, but it's all a matter of when.

John Cena Will Feud With The Miz

With The Rock making the trek back to Hollywood, WWE life will go on for Cena. The issue with that, however, is that he has essentially feuded with everyone on the roster and won't be able to replicate the mass importance of his feud with The Rock. There will assuredly be an in-ring segment between The Rock and Cena the night after WrestleMania, and if Cena wins, then he is sure to be in a cocky mood, while The Rock will be defiant.

I could easily see The Rock laying out Cena with a Rock Bottom and leaving the ring, only for The Miz to come out afterwards and pick up the pieces by delivering a Skull Crushing Finale to Cena. He could explain himself by saying that the Cena vs. Rock feud has been responsible for the decline of his career over the last year and that he would turn things around by beating Cena. Miz vs. Cena has obviously been done before, but it could get Miz back on track and be a time filler for Cena.

Cena and The Rock Will Have a Rematch at SummerSlam

Depending on how their WrestleMania match goes, many may not want to see a rematch between The Rock and Cena, but that is precisely what I envision happening. Since SummerSlam is in Los Angeles annually now, it only makes sense for Cena and The Rock to do battle there since it is essentially Rock's home base. The Rock laying out Cena on the Raw after WrestleMania will leave the door open for him to return at some point and resume the feud.

Cena can feud with The Miz and whoever else for a few months until August rolls around, and then the rivalry with The Rock can be rekindled. There has been talk about a three-match series between Cena and The Rock, and while there is no guarantee that it would be a success, I could see it happening. If that were to be the case, then The Rock would win at SummerSlam to even up the series, and then Cena would ultimately go over at WrestleMania XXIX. It may not be the best solution, but it's the most sensible at this point.
