WWE Diva Kelly Kelly Talks to B/R About WrestleMania 28, Maria Menounos & More

WrestleMania 28 is shaping up to be one of the most-viewed WrestleManias ever. And for WWE diva Kelly Kelly, it couldn't come at a better time in her career.

Kelly Kelly was generous enough to record an interview this past week on TribLIVE Radio, a sports channel in Pittsburgh, and we spoke about a number of topics including how significant to her career this Sunday's WrestleMania match will be.

The 25-year-old Florida native will be teaming with Maria Menounos from Access Hollywood in a tag-team match against Eve & Beth Phoenix.

It couldn't be a better situation for Kelly Kelly. One of the eight matches on the card and she is paired with this year's celebrity. In addition to Menounos being one of the celebrities involved with the event, she also will be able stand out to the wrestling audience more than most celebrities in the past because of her passion for wrestling and her desire to learn how to actually apply some moves.

I think its going to be great match, and like you said Maria does have some previous training. She has been training, so she's got the basics down. We're actually going to get in the ring and go over a few things this week and try to get to get some signature moves down.

"

Menounos has trained at Ric Drasin's school in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and has been in a WWE ring a few times for matches on RAW and Tribute to the Troops.

A celebrity that won't embarrass herself or the WWE, along with two opponents that are among the best in the company combine to form a winning combination for Kelly Kelly. On April 1 in Miami, she will have the most meaningful WrestleMania match of her career. She has appeared in Lumberjill matches and 10-Diva tag-team matches, but this will be her highest-profile match yet at WWE's biggest show of the year.

This being my first really ever WrestleMania, my spotlight, I guess you could say, being a tag match against Beth and Eve, I'm really looking forward to it.

"

This WrestleMania match will come just nine months after she had what she described as her greatest accomplishment to date, winning the WWE Divas Championship. She had dozens of televised matches before moving up to become the No. 1 contender and go up against the title-holder, but for two and half years, the WWE didn't feel it was her time.

It wasn't until the fans forced WWE to consider her when they voted her as the No. 1 contender on the “Power to the People” episode of Monday Night RAW in June of 2011. Ironically, the two other options for the fans to vote are Kelly Kelly's opponents at WrestleMania 28.

[My most important moment in WWE was] when I won that [Divas Championship], especially because of how I won it. It was voted by the fans and I think had 50 percent. I was going against two other girls. It had been five years I had been here working my butt off.

I felt like Vince felt it was my time. They [WWE] were like OK, five years, she has been working her butt off, she's never had a chance, let's see how she does. I had it for like six months, and that was my biggest accomplishment, I have to say, in the WWE so far, to hold that and retain it for so long.

"

Since her reign with the Divas Championship, she has established herself, with both fans and the company brass, as more than just the prettiest face. Kelly Kelly has elevated herself to a steady, reliable and improving in-ring talent.

Everyone knows going into the event how valuable WrestleMania 28 can be to the careers of John Cena, The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, CM Punk and Chris Jericho. But I believe Kelly Kelly will be added to that list by making her mark at WrestleMania 28.
