WrestleMania 28: John Cena Shouldn't Defeat The Rock In Miami

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

I'm not going to lie to you people—I'm not much of a wrestling fan these days. But there was a time when I was, and at that time The Rock was wrestling royalty in my eyes.

And I don't want to see wrestling royalty lose to some modern punk like John Cena.

I didn't start out a fan of The Rock, of course—my first favorites were found in the WCW in the form of Goldberg and Rey Mysterio.

But like everyone else, I inevitably moved to the WWE and formed my alliances. I was Hardy Boys over Edge and Christian. I always thought Kane had the coolest entrance. I thought Triple H was a tool. And I was all about "Stone Cold" Steve Austin over The Rock.

But that changed. Really, The Rock's storyline changed and I began to appreciate him for the amazing entertainer he was. The People's Elbow wasn't a finishing move—it was a victory lap. The Rock Bottom would have been a simple move in the hands of lesser wrestlers, but The Rock infused it with a jolt of lightning that shot out of the television and brought you to your feet.

Quite simply, the man was the best entertainer around.

So when I found out he would be taking on John Cena at WrestleMania, I felt compelled to write. I felt compelled because I sure as hell don't want to see some second-rate star like Cena take down wrestling royalty, especially when that royalty has been away from the ring for so long.

And I sure as hell don't want to see some bozo like Cena embarrass The Rock at WWE's biggest spectacle, WrestleMania.

Maybe I'm getting too nostalgic, pulling the "my generation is better than this generation" card. But in my opinion, Cena should be asking for The Rock's autograph, not stepping into the ring with him.

We'll see how he handles royalty on Sunday night.

Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets have won a lot since 2009.
