MLB Uniforms 2012: Breaking Down Best and Worst Jerseys of the Season

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

Ah, the smell of freshly cut grass and Chase Utley talking about his injury must mean spring training is in full bloom. Which is a wonderful time to break down the sights that will captivate us this season. I am, of course, referring to jerseys and uniforms.

The best ball players in the world will suit up in some mighty awesome-looking unis, and some unlucky saps will dress in some seriously tacky mistakes.

We take you on a brief journey of fashion dos and don'ts headed into the 2012 season. From throwbacks to complete overhauls, we have you covered on the most polarizing jerseys in the biz.

Best

1. Toronto Blue Jays

I love the whole "releasing a completely new logo and uniform" and then really making the slightest of tweaks to an old classic.

It pays to use a thin brush when applying the touch-ups. These are some threads that you can feel proud to wear. Sure, the Blue Jay is rocking some sort of Maple Leaf earring; perhaps Canada is on his mid.

Either way, I can dig.

2. Baltimore Orioles

Yay. The cartoon bird lives once again.

There is something comforting about knowing that the Orioles may lose a great deal of games, but hot damn, they are going to look sweet.

Losers can have swagger, folks.

3. Atlanta Braves

Yes, I am loving these.

When all else fails, go to a classic look with the off-white approach. These things shout tradition and success, or last uniform Chipper Jones will ever wear. Either way, good choice.

Worst

1. Miami Marlins

I understand that many of you out there love these threads, and we call you people "wrong."

The are many color themes that work on uniforms. "All of the colors ever created" is not one of them. I understand that Miami is a colorful place where gaudy statues in the outfield are seen as whimsy, but it doesn't make it right.

My eyes, oh, my eyes.

2. Oakland A's

The A's will go throwback mode in July, and they turn to the Oakland Oaks as their design.

Yes, there is nothing atrocious about this jersey, taken from the Athletics' Twitter feed. It just looks like a Little League uniform from the 50's.

The only thing missing is Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez and snacks after the game.

3. Houston Astros

Stay with me. The Astros will don every last one of their throwbacks in 2012. While I am liking the Colt .45's threads, none of it is worth seeing the atrocity we all know and loathe.

Yes, we will again see the bright orange and yellow eyesight destroyers at least once this season. Via Houston Chronicle

Sound off on omissions or jerseys you feel were judged harshly, and as always, follow me on Twitter where things get real.
