College Football Recruiting 2013: Injury Won't Keep 4-Star WR from Nike Showcase

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Things continue to turn in the month of March for Dallas Skyline four-star wide receiver Ra'Shaad Samples.

The coveted recruit has been offered by program after program from coast to coast, accepted an invite to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game and was putting up an MVP-worthy performance at the Nike Football Training Camp in Dallas this past weekend before he went down with a leg injury.

Samples suffered a small break and stretch in the tibia of his left leg and will be sidelined for about 3-4 months.

His first act, if he returns to full health in time, will be a trip to Beaverton, Oregon for the Nike showcase known as The Opening, according to Damon Sayles of ESPN.

Samples was quoted saying:

"

"I’m just thanking God. It’s an honor, and I plan on balling. I get another chance to show why I’m the best wide receiver in the state."

"

The Opening is a four-day event at the Nike headquarters featuring the top 150 players in the nation. Samples, a rising senior, stars for a Skyline team, which is sending receivers to Texas A&M and Grambling State this fall.

It is not a surprise that Samples received an invite. The 6'0", 170-pound receiver recorded 65 catches for 1,369 yards and 19 touchdowns last year—all team highs.

He has offers from the likes of USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Arkansas, among many others. Samples is the 10th recruit to be invited to the opening and the fifth from the state of Texas.
