WWE WrestleMania 28: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Will Beat the Rock

David LevinMay 31, 2018

The title referred to John Cena crushing The Rock. Whether Cena wins of loses, there will not be this "crushing" everyone is talking about.

Cena and The Rock are about as evenly matched as two can be (much like a Cena-CM Punk match).

And while I think Cena gets over Sunday night, it will not resemble the Randy Orton-Mark Henry match where Henry dominated the WWE superstar.

There has to be more to the match and the substance must last awhile. This match has had too much hype for anything else to happen. It needs to be nip and tuck (Undertaker and HHH last year).

If both men can hold their ends of the bargain, then this goes down in WWE history as one of the greatest matches of all time. Here is why Cena should beat The Rock Sunday night.

Because He Has to

1 of 5

He has said it over and over again.

This is not a match The Rock needs to win. He can go on about his business. Everyone will forgive him if he loses and puts Cena over.

Cena needs the win because he goes back to work the next night and if he loses, he must rebuild himself of sorts. It also means he has to regain fans (possibly) who were on the fence before.

The Changing of the Guard

2 of 5

Ric Flair to Sting.

Harley Race to Ric Flair.

Steve Austin to Rock.

The Rock to John Cena.

There comes a time when wrestlers must pass the torch. This is one of them.

The Rock Is Not a Full-Time Wrestler

3 of 5

This is not Undertaker and Triple H or Triple H and HBK.

Cena goes to work every night and The Rock, while there are others like him, will not the response when he returns, having won the match and then jetting off to Hollywood.

Everything Cena has said about being there day in and day out rings true.

And yes, people do respect him for that.

There Is Nothing Else for Him to Do

4 of 5

If Cena wins, it pushes him again. Maybe another WWE Title shot. Maybe a feud with The Miz or Lord Tensai.

He needs to win and wrestling is the only thing he claims he can do.

There may be a little more intensity there when the two men step in the ring.

Cena Rises Above the Hate

5 of 5

Like the shirt says.

Cena comes to the ring and rises to the occasion, he fights the good fight and wins most of his battles.

He is the "Hulk Hogan" of this generation.

When Hogan and Rock met at WM 18, Hogan passed the torch to Rock as the new leader of the wrestling generation. Rock needs to do that as well with Cena.

Pay it forward.
