Cena-Rock, and 5 Things to Watch for on the Biggest RAW of the Year

Alfred KonuwaJun 1, 2018

WrestleMania XXVIII is neck deep in hype as a one-year build up is finally set to culminate in a one-on-one showdown between John Cena and the Rock.

Talk is the name of the game as this war of words has heated up recently, and per any strong WrestleMania card, WrestleMania XXVIII is headlined with three matches that could carry a pay-per-view by their lonesome.

Tomorrow night's go-home edition of RAW will be the WWE's final chance to make a sales pitch for this highly anticipated pay-per-view. There are a handful of loose ends still yet to be tied before WrestleMania XXVIII is finalized, as RAW will be tasked with not only finalizing WrestleMania, but making fans care.

1. Watch for Cena-Rock to Get (More) Personal

1 of 5

John Cena and the Rock will once again be in the same building tomorrow night on RAW, and are expected to have a final face off before their match next Sunday.

Each of Cena and Rock's verbal showdowns in the last month have been littered with palpable tension as perceptibly real-life animosity between the two rears its head.

If their exclusive videos from the upcoming Once in a Lifetime documentary are any indication, the WWE still seems committed to creating a less hostile environment for Cena. A Video of a likable John Cena alongside his mother Carol Cena while she tells a childhood story was juxtaposed with Rock concerning over how hard he was trending on Twitter. A bit less likable.

Cena and Rock will continue to exchange barbs in what should be a very tense showdown. Given the high stakes of a go-home show for WrestleMania, expect each performer to bring their A-game, possibly pulling new tricks from their sleeves outside of "Hollywood phony" and "Fruity Pebble."

2. Watch for Jericho to Continue to Gain Momentum on CM Punk

2 of 5

The Jericho-Punk feud has picked up steam lately with Jericho attacking members of CM Punk's family for drug and alcohol abuse.

The brilliance of these personal attacks on Punk has been the fact that Jericho has done them via satellite, thereby gaining immense heel heat with Punk, who is unable to physically respond for such dastardly statements.

Jericho's theme of cutting down Punk's family should continue Monday night, with Jericho likely dropping a bomb shell that should make him as detestable as ever.

The WWE would be wise to limit any physical interactions between the two to help further the anticipation for Jericho's possible comeuppance.

3. Watch for a Possible Rey Mysterio Sighting

3 of 5

With one spot remaining on both Team Johnny and Team Teddy, the best announcement may be saved for last as Rey Mysterio could be the final babyface choice for Team Teddy.

Mysterio is in a photo finish situation battling a knee injury he suffered last year, and should be close to 100 percent.

Mysterio's workload would be much less in at 12-man tag team match so he could be protected if he is not fully healed yet. The announcement of Mysterio would certainly give a match filled with mid carders more of a WrestleMania feel.

4. Watch for the Miz to Finally Get His Match

4 of 5

The Miz has spent this WrestleMania season lobbying for a match at WrestleMania, but to no avail. Miz would be a very sensible choice as the final member of Team Johnny, but could also be held out of WrestleMania to further his ongoing storyline.

With no sign of Alberto Del Rio since making an surprise appearance at Elimination Chamber, it is possible he will be shelved for this match in favor of Miz, who has lobbied in the past for a spot on Team Johnny.

5. Watch for Triple H to Be Portrayed as More of a Threat to End the Streak

5 of 5

Last week, the Undertaker used mind games to build tension between Triple H and Shawn Michaels as the subplot of a possible Triple H-HBK rivalry became magnified.

While tension between Triple H and Shawn Michaels is an intriguing aspect of this feud, the WWE would better sell this match by focusing on how Triple H could legitimately win headed into WrestleMania.

If the ongoing angst between Shawn Michaels and Triple H continues to build, fans will expect Michaels to possibly screw Triple H. The last thing a feud with the Undertaker at WrestleMania needs is for the opposition to be perceived as being at a disadvantage beyond being faced with the seemingly impossible feat of ending the Undertaker's streak.
