WrestleMania 28: John Cena vs. the Rock Will Never Live Up to Hype
The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28 is like seeing Run-DMC (RIP Jam-Master Jay) and Aerosmith on stage today performing Walk this Way.
Sure, they are both iconic groups from their era and genre, but both are old and not quite on the level as performers as they once were.
Yet, because they are who they are, the event is hyped.

This is John Cena, Mr. FU...err I mean Attitude Adjustment vs. The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment. If you're even a fringe wrestling fan, you have to have some interest in it.
Because of that widespread commercial appeal, the event is majorly hyped.
Any time The Rock shows his face—let alone on WWE television—it gets folks' attention.
That said, as far as in-ring action, I wouldn't expect much.
First off, John Cena for all his charisma and muscle, has never been stellar in the ring. I do have respect for him, as he has been an awesome presence in the WWE for more than a decade.
Still, how many times have you been impressed with Cena, aside from feats of pure strength?
If you know how to judge the workings of a match, the answer to that question is probably not more than two or three times. I bet all three of those times were at least five years ago.
Match that dynamic up with The Rock, who has always been a phenomenal athlete and the most complete WWE superstar in history. However, he hasn't been active in years (a few run-in Rock Bottoms don't count).
Even though he is a great athlete, The Rock is far from all-in with this appearance. He's a movie star first and foremost, and he won't be making many sacrifices to put on a great show.
Fans looking for 40-something chair shots, or moonsaults off the top rope better tune in to the Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny matchup for Kofi Kingston.
I don't mean to put a downer on this match. It is historic to see two icons battle each other in the ring.
That said, get your expectations in order. Prepare to enjoy it for what it means to see two legends in the ring, not for what you'll see.
