WWE SmackDown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

WWE SmackDown was a decent show Friday night. It may be the final true Blue Brand episode before WrestleMania, with next week being more of a "special." If I had to give SmackDown a grade, I would fall in the C range.

Nothing terrible, nothing amazing.

The Good

Anytime Abraham Washington is on my television set is a good thing! That man was pure gold in ECW, and I would welcome him back. His "run" reminded me of Dennis Miller as a Raw guest host.

The crowd was dead silent during the acts, and that was a shame. Just because they didn't "get" the jokes doesn't mean they were bad. It seems many punchlines went right over their heads. I loved Miller hosting Raw, just as I did with Washington's talk show.

It is always great to see Hornswoggle out there. The man is a wonderful WWE talent and is definitely worthy of television time.

Also, my "it" girl Aksana looked stunning! She continues to perform well, and her future is very bright in this industry.

The opening segment was fun. It is always nice to see some actual tension shown between the men in the World Title feud. AJ talked up Daniel Bryan, and Sheamus came out to stop the "lovefest."

Great work for everybody involved! It may be WWE's plan, but I definitely fear for Bryan at Mania. He has not been built up to be anything more than an easy opponent for the Celtic Warrior to defeat.

Mark Henry defeated R-Truth in short order. Perhaps another brilliant "report" will come out about how the World's Strongest Man is being poorly used. Since being at full health, the man has been nothing but dominant.

AJ defeated another Bella twin this week. It was the same thing we saw last week, and it is very interesting to see the World Champion involved with a diva's feud. I really fear for Bryan after Mania.

Zack Ryder defeated Jacks Swagger in a good match. Vickie Guerrero looked excellent ringside, and Hornswoggle looked to be having fun helping Zack win.

Bravo to The Great Khali on making Team Teddy! While Ryder has to practically beg for a Mania spot, Khali gets one just for being amazing. I love the new members!

Later backstage, Eve Torres made Zack Ryder look like a goof ball once again. It continues...

Kane vs. Big Show was entertaining. The match was short and had no real winner. Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton both came out to meet their opponents at Mania.

It was nothing amazing, but it did its job. Kane is being set up to lose to Orton next weekend, just as it seems Show will lose to Cody. However, I am not sold on Rhodes retaining just yet.

Brodus Clay defeated Heath Slater in about one minute. I eagerly anticipate another insightful "report" on Clay's wrestling ability inside the ring and how much work he still needsl. Yeah, or not!

Back to reality, Cameron and Naomi looked exceptional out there in green. Being a great dancer myself, I can certainly appreciate all three performers "cutting a rug" after the match.

WWE aired the same Lord Tensai promo we saw Monday night. Maybe we will get another denial on Twitter from the man behind the gimmick? The comments Tensai made only provide more reason for me not to follow WWE talents on Twitter.

The Great Khali beat Dolph Ziggler in a few minutes. Christian was on commentary during this to further his big return. All of this was very well done.

I am sure many will cry and whine on social media for the next few hours about Khali winning, but I don't care. The right man "went over," and as a paying customer, I understand WWE's thought process on this one.

Finally, we got a nice main event. Sheamus and CM Punk vs. The Miz and Daniel Bryan has four great characters, and all of them can wrestle a quality match. It was also a nice touch to see Miz and Bryan together again.

I have said it over and over, but I'll say it again: Sheamus has to keep winning! Well, he did so again on SmackDown. All the performers involved need to keep up the excellent work inside the squared circle.

The Bad

I agree with Yokozuna being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. I am not doubting the announcement one bit. However, I had one issue here.

Where has the hype been around this class? WWE went weeks without a single mention about this year's inductees. They have yet to even name the people inducting the legends.

Yes, some "reports" have hit online. That isn't for the majority of fans. That is not the millions watching every Raw or SmackDown. Next week needs a lot more attention to the 2012 ceremony.

Speaking of attention, why was Kane vs. Big Show just given away randomly? Those two may not "draw" as much as they used to, but it is still a major match in 2012.

The Ugly

Please keep the Bella twins together! They broke up in early 2009, and it was terrible. Weeks later, they were back to liking each other. Yeah.

The two are twins! That is their entire gimmick. Breaking them up would do nothing positive.

On a final note, WWE has one week left to sell WrestleMania to fans. I know I will be purchasing the show, but I am sure many are still debating whether or not to spend the money next Sunday night.
