6 Reasons Why WWE Diva AJ Is the Most Underrated Diva on the Roster

Cory CoolsonMar 23, 2012

AJ is a diva that has been pushed as a performer over the past few months, yet people don't seem to compliment her ability as much as they should.

Now, I am not a fan of the word "underrated." To me, when somebody refers to another as "underrated," they're saying, "I am right and the rest of the world is wrong."

Well, I believe that I am right when I say AJ is currently one of the top three active divas in the WWE—only lagging behind Beth Phoenix and Natalya.

And if I'm not mistaken, people seem to want to place her with names like Alicia Fox, Kaitlyn and all the other mediocre divas.

In my opinion, she deserves more than that. My hope is by the end of this article, two-thirds of the readers will look at AJ from a different standpoint.

Without further ado, I welcome you to join me in reading, "6 Reasons Why WWE Diva AJ Is the Most Underrated Diva on the Roster."

6. She's Likable

1 of 7

AJ has the natural ability to be liked and adored by the fans. I don’t know whether it’s her perkiness or her ability to be herself, but she’s just so darn likable.

I’ll be the first to admit that, when I’m watching wrestling, I generally prefer to root for the heels. Now, I’ll never favor the heels as an analyst, but as a fan I've always had a penchant for cheering for the heels—which stems back to 1998.

But for some reason I've also developed the knack to cheer for AJ. She’s really sucked me into wanting to see her win. During her early days on SmackDown, I was actually invested in her matches; I would want her to win.

I would even get behind her during my occasional viewing of NXT.

OK, I’m not trying to make this article about myself; I’m just using myself as an example. But the fact of the matter is, even when I’m watching with casual fans, I see them wanting AJ to get the upset victory in her matches.

Fine, this video isn't the perfect example on why AJ is likable, but she eventually wins the fans over in the competition.

5. She Can Play a Heel

2 of 7

If you're a wrestler and you can only play one role well, that will limit what the company can give you as a performer.

If WWE wants to incorporate a psychologist gimmick for one of their talented lower-carders, and all you can play is your fairy godfather gimmick, there's a pretty good chance WWE won't consider you to play the well-utilized psychologist.

Believe it or not, AJ played a heel for a portion of her FCW career. Though I haven't seen too much of it, the video embedded to the left gives me a good impression.

This just proves AJ isn't only good when it comes to playing a perky, cute diva, but she's also a good heel as well.

In case you don't understand some of the references AJ is making in her promo to Raquel Diaz, Diaz is the daughter of WWE personality Vickie Guerrero.

4. She's Pretty

I know I may get heat for including this into the list—I'm sorry. In the majority's opinion, AJ is a very pretty diva.

Like it or not, your physical appearance does play a role in your impression as a diva. Maybe less in the PG era, but it still is considered.

So if AJ wasn't pretty, would I still be writing this article? Absolutely. This is just a piece of the puzzle. Being good looking can take you to high heights in WWE; just ask Kelly Kelly.

3. Her Wrestling Ability

4 of 7

If AJ was showcased in matches longer than two minutes, maybe the majority would see something in her.

There’s a little expression I learned many years ago called, “show, not tell.” And that’s exactly what I’m about to do—watch the video.

2. She's a Marvelous Actress

5 of 7

In her little program with Daniel Bryan, AJ has been given the chance to showcase her acting ability.

Not too many divas in WWE get a chance to really showcase this, and when they do, they end up sounding like a dying giraffe when they get emotional—or at least Eve and Vickie Guerrero do.

AJ has done everything right thus far. When she’s anxiously trying to protect her boyfriend, Daniel Bryan, from getting decimated by a 500-pound giant, you can really see it in her eyes that she doesn’t want her beloved boyfriend getting hurt.

When Bryan’s treating AJ like she’s that annoying housekeeper at a hotel, AJ has the most perfect look on her face—and I’m talking from an acting standpoint.

AJ has shown that she was undoubtedly the correct choice to play Bryan’s girlfriend in this so-far captivating angle.

1. She's the Overall Package

6 of 7

OK, OK, I know the No. 1 ranking may have been a bit of a letdown, but this outweighs the other five combined.

You really can't find an aspect in wrestling that AJ fails to utilize. She's the overall package. She has the microphone ability, the in-ring ability, the acting, the fan reaction, the facial expressions; the list goes on and on.

The End
