College Football Recruiting 2013: Previewing Combines and Camps for March 24-25

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

With spring practice in full swing, college football recruiting is also hitting a fever pitch. Although National Signing Day is more than 10 months away, coaches are working diligently to land the commitments of recruits across the nation, and the battle is more intense than ever.

Added coverage of 17 and 18-year-old potential superstars has made the business of recruiting a year-round spectacle, and fans want to know everything they can of every potential player before they even decide which school to attend.

Thus, the amount of camps and combines across the country has increased tenfold, and this weekend there are as many as eight different events.

Dallas will host at least three of them, and there will also be events in Las Vegas, San Diego and Bradenton, as well as Junior Day camps in Alabama and Georgia.

Dallas Nike Training Camp

This is the start of the Nike Training Camp tour that runs through the beginning of June. The top performers at each stop could earn an invitation to Nike's "The Opening", a week long event featuring the top 150 players in the country at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

Not surprisingly, the state of Texas provides a number of big-name recruits that schools already know.

Among the biggest are 5-star quarterback Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright (Texas) and 4-star lineman Jake Raulerson of Celina (Texas), both committed to Texas. At 6'5", 220 pounds, Swoopes has already drawn more Vince Young comparisons than he knows what to do with.

Swoopes will compete in the Dallas Elite 11 regional the day before, and he may also get the chance to toss the rock to another Longhorn commit, 4-star wide receiver Jake Oliver of Jesuit (Dallas).

The Nike camp will also see plenty of 4-star WR Ra'Shaad Samples of Skyline (Dallas), who has upwards of 30 offers, his most recent of which came from USC.

We know Texas knows how to do high school football and these kids will show out this weekend.

The Vegas 7-on-7 features some of the best talent in the west. Teams from various areas will compete in a championship and a consolation bracket and will run from Saturday through to Sunday.

The highest rated prospect on the field will be Su'a Cravens, a 5-star safety from Murrieta, California (Vista Murrieta).

Another 5-star safety, Priest Willis of Tempe, Arizona (Marcos De Niza HS), will also be on hand. He leads a 7-on-7 secondary complete with 4-star recruits Tahaan Goodman, a safety, and Chris Hawkins, a cornerback, teammates at Rancho Cucamonga, California.

These are just a few of the biggest names, and there is no shortage of elite talent. Scout's Brandon Huffman gives a great breakdown of the entire two-day event.

Also the first stops on its respective tour, the VTO Junior Day camps get kicked off with a bang in back-to-back days.

Headlining at Alabama is running back Mark Dodson Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, and linebacker Dee Liner of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Both players carry 4-star ratings from Rivals and are highly sought after. Liner, however, has already committed to Auburn.

And in Georgia the biggest names include wide receiver DeMarre Kitt of Tyrone, Georgia and 4-star offensive tackle Shamire Devine of East Point, Georgia.

Devine has offers from a good number of SEC schools, while Kitt holds double-digit offers with majority coming from the SEC as well.

It will be one heck of a busy weekend for the college football world, and players from all across the country will be putting their skills on display.

As the summer creeps closer, schools will only intensify their pursuit of these recruits and we'll see more commitments with each passing day.

When the weekend is over, we'll have coverage of all the happenings from the across the country right here at Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

You can catch me talking talking football and throwing seven different kinds of smoke on Twitter.
