College Football Recruiting 2013: Su'a Cravens Is a Top Recruit You Need to Know

Wes ODonnellMar 21, 2012

Su'a Cravens is already holding somewhere between 30 to 40 scholarship offers.

The 6'1", 205-pound defensive back from Murrieta, California is a gifted athlete with elite potential, and nearly every program with any shot of landing him has got involved with the chase for his services.

Why?

He's that game-changing type of safety that teams crave in this day and age of pass-first football.

Cravens could drop down and play linebacker if he wanted to bulk up, and it is that type of versatility that has so many teams interested. Both Rivals and Scout rank Su'a in their Top 10 and rate him as a 5-star recruit.

The Vista Murrieta star plans to use many of his official visits with schools he hasn't yet seen. Three of his five visits, according to Eric McKinney, will be to Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State.

Another of those official visits could very well be to Tuscaloosa, Alabama as the reigning BCS Champions recently offered the potential superstar.

Cravens told Greg Ostendorf of ESPN's TideNation:

"

"I’m looking at if they have my major, if I’m comfortable with the coaching staff, and if I’m a good fit there,” Cravens said. “It’s really going to depend on my visit because I’m going to have to see the place before I commit there.”

"

Coach Nick Saban has landed a 5-star safety in each of his last two classes—Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix and Landon Collins—and it would hardly be a surprise to see him reel in Cravens.

The competition for his signature is going to be one heck of a battle that has no clear end in sight.

When watching Cravens, it is extremely easy to see why teams are all over him. His ability as a running back highlights his vision and explosiveness, but defensively he just seems entirely at home with himself.  He's fluid in his drops and always seems confident in what he's doing and where he's going.

He intends to be an early enrollee, but to avoid rushing his decision, which means he's going to be pursued mighty hard over the course of the summer.

As the temperature around the country heats up, expect things in the race for Su'a Cravens to do so as well.
