WrestleMania 28: CM Punk Must Leave Miami as WWE Champion

Adam WellsJun 5, 2018

CM Punk is just starting to get the momentum he needs to really be a main event star for WWE, so there is no reason for him to lose the WWE championship to Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28.

Last summer, following one of the most-talked about angles in recent memory, it appeared as if Punk was going to be the next big thing in WWE.

Things looked even brighter following one of the best WWE matches in recent memory at Money in the Bank, with Punk defeating John Cena and "walking out" of the company with the championship.

All of that was undone after Punk was off television for one week and then just showed up on Raw to challenge Cena to a match at SummerSlam.

It has been a bumpy road back to the top of the mountain for Punk, but now he is locked in one of the premier feuds at the biggest event of the year with one of the best all-around performers in the world today.

Jericho's return was met with some indifference at first, just because he wasn't giving the fans all the answers they wanted right away. But now that he has spoken out about what his goals are, everyone is on board with what he is offering.

As much fun as it would be to see Jericho's ego explode after winning the title, having Punk, who is going to be around a lot longer than Jericho, lose the title on the biggest show of the year does not do him or the WWE any favors.

Instead of doing something just for the sake of doing it, WWE should be thinking about long-term ramifications.

Punk defeating a star like Jericho on the WrestleMania stage will do wonders for his credibility. Instead of these 50-50 booking ideas—where one wrestler gets a win only to have it rendered meaningless a short time later by having the loser get the win back—WWE needs to have Punk go over strong.

Let these two go out, put on one of the best matches at WrestleMania and make sure that Punk looks like a bigger star coming out than he was going in.
