MLB Spring Training 2012: Four Perfect Innings for Jamie Moyer Against Giants

Kenny DeJohnJun 7, 2018

Jamie Moyer, the ageless wonder, continues to turn heads this spring, this time throwing four perfect innings against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.

Moyer struck out four in the contest, and the Rockies were victorious 7-0.

A 24-year veteran and 267 game winner, Moyer seemed to turn back the clock on Thursday, pitching to a three-ball count just twice, and threw 30 of his 45 pitches for strikes.

Moyer stunned the Giants with his pinpoint control and 78-81 MPH fastball, as the Giants were unable to make solid contact against him all game. Angel Pagan was the only Giant to hit the ball hard against him, lining out to center field to start the game.

After spending all of last season recovering from a torn ligament in his left elbow, Moyer seems to be in the mix for one of three open spots in the Colorado rotation.

So far this spring, Moyer has tossed nine innings and allowed just one earned run.

Moyer is currently competing with the likes of Juan Nicasio, Alex White, Josh Outman, Jhoulys Chacin, Guillermo Moscoso and Tyler Chatwood for the final three rotation spots. Nicasio and Chacin figure to have the inside track at two of the spots, with Moyer being the favorite for the No. 5 spot.

When asked about whether or not he felt he deserved the rotation spot, Moyer answered:

“You got to ask the guy down the hall (manager Jim Tracy). I’ve always looked at spring training as a place where you work to win a job. It’s back to work tomorrow.”

Moyer seems determined and motivated this spring as he looks to resurrect his career and and move closer to winning game No. 300. Rockies fans should be happy with his attitude, as well as his results, so far this spring.

If all goes well in his next few starts, there's no reason to believe that Moyer won't continue to pitch well into the regular season.
