WWE WrestleMania 28: Matches the Fans Wish Were on the Card

Julian SalinasJun 7, 2018

We are a week away from WrestleMania XVIII. Viewing the card, you have to admit that it has the potential to be one of the best events in WWE history.

You have a clash between "Best in the World" CM Punk and "Best at What I Do" Chris Jericho. You have breakout star Sheamus against "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Daniel Bryan. We also have Triple H and the Undertaker in an "End of an Era" match, with HBK as referee. And of course, without needing to be said, you have the match of a lifetime, The Rock going against John Cena.

We also have Team Johnny against Team Teddy, which kind of looks weak at the moment, but we're hoping it'll bring something new to the weekly shows. Oh, and a divas match, which for some reason isn't for the title.

That's a good card! But of course, it can be improved. This is why I made this slideshow. I'll list some fantasy matches that should be added or replace some of the matches on the 'Mania card.

Let's get this started!

5. A Divas' Championship Match

1 of 6

Let's admit it, the tag team match will be completely forgettable. With us being almost just a week away from the big event, it has been the less hyped up confrontation in the card.

In the end, it will probably last a few minutes. And guess what? It isn't even for the Divas title. What kind of 'Mania match is that?

I think the majority of the WWE fans were expecting to see Kharma return to Raw earlier this month and confront Beth Phoenix, starting a feud for the championship. But because of sad reasons, Kharma hasn't been able to return.

But still, it would have been a great match, which could have revived the Divas division. Sadly, we have to accept that it is a pretty beaten-up division, which has just a few exceptions in the Diva champ, Eve, and AJ.

4. Alberto Del Rio vs. Randy Orton

2 of 6

It's hard to imagine the guy who was competing for both major titles last year doesn't even have a match this year, just because the company doesn't know what do with Del Rio.

When Alberto returned in Elimination Chamber, and praised Laurinaitis, we we're pretty sure he was going to be part of Team Johnny in the tag team match, but thanks to recent information, it seems the company backed up on this plan.

There was also talk that Randy Orton wasn't originally planned to face Kane at the event (which is pretty obvious). According to the sources, it was supposed to be Del Rio vs. the Viper, but it seems that, for the same reason of not knowing what do with him, he got the boot from this idea, which is a shame, because Del Rio and Orton seemed to have good chemistry together. Furthermore, they may have had a better buildup than the current one with Kane, which seems to be going nowhere.

Let's hope for Del Rio's sake that Johnny will choose him as the last member of his team.

3. Triple Threat Tag Team Match

3 of 6

It was looking like the tag team division was in the midst of a revival thanks to teams like Air Boom and Epico and Primo. But since Evan Bourne got suspended, and the tag champions have been in lost in the shuffle, it's almost impossible to think that a match for the titles will be added to the event, except maybe if it's a dark match, which is definitely bad for the division.

A match that could have showcased the tag teams, and made them more interesting, would be a triple threat tag match between the Epico and Primo, the recently formed team of Kofi Kingston and R-Truth and maybe Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger, or the Usos.

But it seems the company doesn't have an interest in making their tag championships seem prestigious by defending them at the live event.

2. Edge vs. Christian

4 of 6

Here's a little fantasy picking for ya.

In a recent interview, Edge commented on his idea of a perfect way to end his career, which he wanted it to be in a match with his life-long friend, Christian, at the biggest wrestling event of the year. Sadly, this match can't even be up for consideration by the creative team, because it would be dangerous for Edge's health.

But let's imagine that Adam Copeland is in great condition. He would have had a great year and would have had some great interaction with Christian, until earlier this year. Christian could have turned semi-heel, somewhat jealous of Edge's career. This would therefore begin a great buildup for a great match at WrestleMania, which would have Edge lose at the end and be able to end his career on his terms.

Since this can't happen, we will have to see Christian on Team Johnny, and Edge watching as a fan.

1. Money in the Bank Ladder Match

5 of 6

There's a pattern here, isn't there? Almost all of the matches I listed here can't happen because of injured superstars, and according to various sources, the reason there isn't a MITB match at 'Mania this year is because  of the injury to Wade Barrett, who was supposed to be the winner of the briefcase. How unlucky is that? It's sad for the fans who wanted to see this match, but it's worse for Wade, who had a guaranteed push with this.

But still, couldn't WWE go on with it and give someone else the chance? You know, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, the Miz, R-Truth, and heck, even Santino could've had a great journey if he had the briefcase. But no, the WWE was stuck to they're idea of having the English superstar win the match.

Guess we're gonna have to wait and see if Wade can recover on time and have him win the briefcase later this year.

Conclusions

6 of 6

I think that you have to agree that with any of these matches added to this year's Wrestlemania, the event would be even bigger. But unfortunately, thanks to injuries and bad planning, we have to stick with the card we have already, which isn't all that bad.

Thanks for reading! Comment below about any things you think I can do better. It's very appreciated.
