Andrew Luck Pro Day: Workout Confirms Stanford Star as Colts' Franchise Player
After Andrew Luck's pro day workout, we were left with only one assumption about the upcoming NFL draft. Luck will most certainly be the man for the Indianapolis Colts on that day, and for a very long time after that.
At long last, it was time for Luck to air it out. It was an exercise that bordered on hilarious overkill considering what he has done through his tenure at Stanford.
We already knew that he had a huge arm and could throw a ball pretty much anywhere he wanted on the field.
His 3,527 yards and 37 touchdowns thrown already signaled that he was pretty good last year. I mean, he is the presumed No. 1-overall pick at the draft.
So what we were actually looking for at the pro day is anyone's guess.
Short of Luck launching a ball from Palo Alto to Oakland or completely stumbling over his feet at every turn, he was going to be the No. 1-overall pick.
Something odd happened, as we are all now more certain of this young man's future. More certain can be a thing, right?
Luck was poised and collected throughout the day. He threw into wind with a flood of flashes as cameras went click. The stage was on the wrong side of ridiculous, but Luck was simply solid.
That's good considering the hype and hoopla that is about to welcome him as the heir apparent to the legendary Peyton Manning.
Luck made 50 passes on the day, and 46 of them were completions. Consider that three of the incomplete drops were just drops by the receivers, and you can see that Luck was nearly perfect on a day that he didn't have to be.
One of the misses was a 70-yard bomb that was simply dropped. That was the icing on the cake as Luck proved, again, everything we already knew.
He doesn't lack for confidence, and that is precisely the kind of man you want as the face of a franchise. Via USA Today:
"I'm confident in my own football skills. I think I can make every throw on the football field. People have their opinions, and I know I'm not the strongest-armed guy to ever play the game, but very confident I can go out there and make any throw that needs to be made.
"
That is precisely what he did on Thursday.
He threw simple routes and some that demanded throwing into the wind. Through it all, the passes were crisp and on target.
If you were looking for some grand upheaval, none exist.
Andrew Luck is still the man.
