WWE's Best Match of the Week: Chris Jericho vs. Sheamus on March 16 Smackdown
WrestleMania season is not the time to watch the WWE if you’re expecting to see a ton of great in-ring action.
During the build to the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the year, RAW and SmackDown are usually filled with promos between the guys in the main-event matches and about 1,583 over-the-shoulder shots of someone staring at the WrestleMania sign.
But even though the primary build to 'Mania is done through talking, every once in a while, we’ll get a nice match that steals the show. That match came last Friday when Sheamus faced Chris Jericho in the main event of the March 16 episode of SmackDown.

Sheamus and Jericho were the last two men standing in the 2012 Royal Rumble match, and though it wasn’t exactly HBK vs. 'Taker in 2007, they had a great mini-match at the end of the Rumble that left us wanting more.
So, for the first time ever (this was legitimate, rather than the storyline “first time ever” the WWE uses so often), Sheamus battled Jericho one-on-one on SmackDown.
The entire match lasted only about eight minutes and featured a dirty finish, with Daniel Bryan interfering to give Jericho the countout victory, but this was a great showcase between the two men who will be challenging for the WWE’s two most prestigious titles at WrestleMania.
Sheamus showed that he’s come a really long way since debuting in the WWE back in 2009 and is as over as just about any babyface on the roster. Meanwhile, Jericho was his usual great self here.
Y2J has always been one of those wrestlers who can work with just about anyone, but the Celtic Warrior is certainly beginning to prove that he can, too.
After seeing the chemistry that Sheamus and Jericho have in limited opportunities to work with each other, WWE officials may want to seriously consider a feud between the two once their current rivalries come to an end.
Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
