Wrestlemania 28: Superstars That Must Get Remaining Spots in Battle of GMs

Michael DixonMar 22, 2012

Considering how close we are to WrestleMania, it's a little confusing that there are four spots open in the Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny match, where Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis' will do battle to see who controls both Raw and Smackdown. Fortunately, we're here to round the card out.

These four men need to be the ones to round out the match.

Before we look at who needs to be in the match, let's see who already is. Through the March 19 edition of Raw, this is what the match looks like.

Let's go for the low-hanging branch first and round out team Johnny.\

Team Johnny

Miz

Not only is the Miz too big of a star to be completely left off of the WrestleMania card, but he's been campaigning for a spot on this team for the last few weeks. If you're going to leave him off of the card, then having him campaign for weeks is really pointless.

This is as simple as it can possibly be. Ask yourself this, if it's not Miz, who will it be? There are no other names that make sense to put in this match. Again, Miz is too big of a star to not be on the card at all, and there's not enough time to develop a new feud that would make sense.

Team Teddy

Zack Ryder

Similar to Miz, there's no point in wasting TV time showing him campaigning for a spot if you're not going to give it to him. Ryder makes perfect sense for this team, he has every reason to be against Laurinaitis and given what he's been through, he would not want Johnny running both shows.

This is also a good way to test Ryder's popularity on the grand stage. We know that he has a good underground following, but that doesn't mean he's a star. Getting to wrestle at WrestleMania in a match where he's not the focal point is a good chance to prove that. If he flames out, the WWE loses nothing. If he succeeds, there's a new star on the roster.

Brodus Clay

After such a long layoff, I honestly don't see the point in bringing him back before WrestleMania, but leaving him off of the card. If he wasn't really "WrestleMania Material," then he could have just as easily been left off of television until after the event.

Storyline wise, he makes sense. Johnny held the Funkasaurus off of television for several weeks before we finally saw him come back in January, so there's a reason to be against him. In terms of "matching up," nobody on Team Teddy has the size and strength to answer Henry or really even Swagger, so Clay fills that need.

On top of that, this guy is over with the crowd. He gets good reactions when coming down to wrestle. He isn't in a feud with anyone at this moment, but that's not necessary to be a part of this match. Really, there's no reason to leave him out. More importantly, you're not going to find enough logical options to put in over him.

Rey Mysterio

I don't see any real drawbacks here. A 12-man tag match is the perfect way to ease a guy like Mysterio back in to action. He doesn't need to see much of the ring, actually with five teammates in a one-fall match, Mysterio doesn't need to see any ring action.

But you know that he's going to get a big reaction which is all that he needs to do. Mysterio is the consummate face wrestler and has been a big part of Smackdown for a long time. There is every reason to believe that he would be willing to fight for Teddy.
