WWE News: Major Update on Plans for the Feud Between the Rock and John Cena

Drake OzMar 21, 2012

The Rock will face John Cena at WrestleMania 28 in arguably the biggest match in pro wrestling history, and many fans are viewing it as a once in a lifetime match.

Much like the tagline for when they teamed up at last year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, it’s “Never before. Never again.” Or so we may think.

Although there’s been no real indication on WWE TV that we’ll ever see The Rock wrestle again after WrestleMania 28, we may see “The People’s Champ” back in the ring after all and it may happen more than once.

As noted before, WWE officials were discussing a potential John Cena vs. The Rock rematch this past weekend. There has also been talk of doing a third match between the two. If they go with the trilogy, the rematch would take place sometime this year with the third match taking place at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey.

I know some fans will grow sick of the feud between The Rock and Cena, but this is a money rivalry and the WWE would be wise to squeeze everything out of it that they can. If that means putting on one or two more matches between the two after WrestleMania 28 then so be it.

When The Rock leaves the WWE post-WrestleMania, excitement surrounding the WWE product will undoubtedly die down. So, what better way to bring that excitement back than by bringing back The Rock?

While some of us might not want to see it right now, chances are we may change our minds when Cena’s feuding with someone we don’t care about this summer, and we say, “Man. I wish The Rock were still here.”

I’d love to see The Rock come back whenever possible, whether it’s for a rematch at SummerSlam or Survivor Series that results in a best-of-three series or it’s simply a rematch at WrestleMania 29 next year.

The Rock is good for business, and no matter what your personal feelings are for him or his involvement in WrestleMania, it’s hard to deny that he has a huge impact on pro wrestling.

If The Rock wants to come back, the WWE (well, at least some of the people there) will welcome him with open arms and WrestleMania 28 will be booked to make the most sense for The Rock’s matches down the road.

While a Cena victory at WrestleMania 28 seems likely, a potential rematch with The Rock changes that. Big-time.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring orTwitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
