WWE Diva Diagnosis: WWE Drops the Ball with Divas Tag Match at WrestleMania 28
The WWE could have tried to make the Divas matter at WrestleMania 28.
The creative team could have attempted to bring in a Diva from the past to face Beth Phoenix, or even have the two best female wrestlers in the company—Beth and Natalya—compete against each other for the Divas Championship. But no; those guys didn’t do that.
Instead, as seen on Monday’s Raw, they’ve brought in TV news correspondent Maria Menounos, paired her with Kelly Kelly and will have them face Beth and WWE’s resident skank juice-sipper, Eve Torres, in a tag team match on the grandest stage of them all.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Good lord, WWE. What did we ever do to deserve this?
Beth is arguably the best women’s wrestler in the world, but this match features three women who are just waiting to turn it into a total cluster…you know. While I’ll give both Eve and Kelly Kelly credit for improving over the last year and Menounos credit for being pretty hot, this is not the match we should be seeing at WrestleMania 28.
And the reasoning behind this is simple: It only features one good wrestler.
Beth is far and away the best competitor in this bout, and to be honest, Menounos might very well be the second-best wrestler in it. Yes, Menounos, who isn’t even a professional wrestler, is probably more talented than Eve and Kelly Kelly.
Still, Menounos has hardly any experience in the ring and is going to be paired with Kelly Kelly, who's known mainly for screaming really loud during her matches, not putting on good ones. That means that at all times, either Menounos or K2 is going be in the ring.
Ugh. Double ugh.
While the match will likely last less than five minutes, I just don’t understand the WWE’s reasoning behind bringing in Menounos for a match, much less this match. I guess she’s somewhat of a celebrity, but the WWE’s decision to put her in a WrestleMania match is questionable to say the least.
Menounos basically just appeared out of nowhere to participate in this bout, and although she and Beth have somewhat of a history together, this is a feud that’s been randomly thrown together because quite simply, the WWE didn’t know what else to do with the Divas.
At least two Divas deserve WrestleMania matches for working so hard throughout the year (yes, they work hard), but it would have been nice to see a build toward a Mania feud, and this Memounos/K2 vs. Beth/Eve match has had virtually none whatsoever.
All we got was a video package that took two minutes to film and didn’t even happen on WWE programming.
I guess we should expect nothing less, though, because the Divas have probably grown accustomed to having just two minutes of TV time.
Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring orTwitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
