Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: 5 Best Trade Options for Tebow

Adam OdekirkJun 7, 2018

The signing of Peyton Manning has officially brought about the end of "Tebow Time" in Denver.

There is too much money and hope invested in Peyton Manning to have any other superstar quarterback on the roster, and the Denver Broncos have decided to hitch their wagons to Manning instead of Tebow.

It's not a surprise, and it has been rumored for some time that Elway would make a deal like this if it became an option. It is the only legitimate way to justify parting with the exciting, albeit polarizing, young star.

Denver fans should look back at the fun that was 2011 and have a special place in their heart for it, but Tebow cannot grow to be the player that many want him to be under Manning. Those fans who subscribe to the "Manning Mentorship Plan" need only look at the lackluster careers of Jim Sorgi and Curtis Painter, who seemed to gain nothing from spending time behind Manning in Indianapolis

Unless it is a position player that comes back in return for Tebow, the price is going to seem like a shock to diehard Tebow fans. There is simply no team willing to part with a first or even second-round pick for the quarterback.

That being said, as the market begins to develop for Tebow's services, here are some possible destinations and the potential bounty that could be reaped by Denver in return for No. 15.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars, or more accurately their new owner Shad Khan, have long been interested in Tebow. Not so much for his football acumen but rather for the cult following he has in the state of Florida and the positive impact it would have on ticket sales.

Khan is the most "businessman-like" of the potential suitors and may be the most likely to give Denver a favorable deal.

There may be two ways this could happen. First, Jacksonville could decide to part with a fifth-round draft pick and add Tebow to their quarterback stable that now includes Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert.  iAccording to News4Jax.com, some feel like it could work by creating packages for Tebow on top of whoever is their starter.

The other option is to pull the plug on Blaine Gabbert and send him to Denver for Tebow in what would amount to a straight up swap for backups. This would essentially save Denver from having to take a quarterback in this year's draft to back up Manning.

Either option is intriguing, but Elway might be hesitant based on the lackluster performance by Gabbert last season.

Miami Dolphins

The tour through Florida will continue for Tebow with Miami as a potential landing spot. The team already hosted a "Tim Tebow Day", I mean a "Florida Gators Day," and it is where the Tebow legend began in earnest with Denver's fourth-quarter comeback last season.

Denver is probably waiting for the market to be set, but it seems unlikely that teams will reach any higher than possibly a fourth-round draft pick or position player to land the quarterback.

Miami has Matt Moore to offer as a potential backup for Manning, but again it seems more likely that Denver will draft a backup and want a position player from a team that they deal with.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns are in desperate need of a spark and it could come in the form of Tim Tebow.

Colt McCoy has been given the vote of confidence from his coaches and management , but that hasn't kept their name from surfacing as a team looking to deal for Robert Griffin III or possibly woo Peyton Manning.

Cleveland has two fourth-round draft picks and having the juicy media attention of Tim Tebow competing with Colt McCoy for starting quarterback could bring some swagger to Cleveland. No matter who won the job, Tebow might be a nice power running option in the red zone after the loss of Peyton Hillis.

Denver may not find much in the way of position players from Cleveland, but because they boast two fourth-round draft picks, it could be a great trade partner for Denver.

New England Patriots

The Patriots have already brought back McDaniels, and now allowed him to reunite with Brandon Lloyd when the receiver hit the market this offseason.

Whose to say that Belichick wouldn't allow him to add Tebow to his box of toys as well?

The Patriots are bereft of late-round draft picks, so in order to make this deal McDaniels would have to convince the Pats brass that parting ways with third string quarterback Ryan Mallett makes sense for a player—in Tebow—who could help with packages right away.

Mallet is probably the most prototypical passer being discussed as a straight swap possibility for Tebow, and that might be the most intriguing to Denver.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles may be forced to do the "due diligence" and research the idea of bringing in Tebow to back up Mike Vick in Philadelphia. The more Andy Reid researches, the more he may think that this is the right guy to fit into the system in Philly.

Vick and Tebow share some physical similarities in their ability to run better than most NFL quarterbacks, but Vick's style is more speed, Tebow is more power and could work well in the red zone.

If Andy Reid is truly responsible for the improvement in Vick's pocket ability (which is also still being honed), why can't the same be true for Tebow?

In an interesting twist, the Eagles could turn around and give Denver their 6th round pick back (that was acquired in the Joe Mays Trade, according to ESPN) in this year's draft, or any of the multitude of picks that Philly possesses fourth round or later.

In terms of position players, there are rumors that Denver is interested in making a splash with a wide receiver, so why not possibly discuss sending Tebow and a low draft pick to Philly for Jeremy Maclin? His contract makes him a value and paired with the current receivers and Peyton Manning, it could be a dangerous combo.

Philly knows they are in tough spots trying to lock up their current players and if they think they may lose Maclin anyway, why not have Denver take him off their hands and let them worry about trying to re-sign him?
