Chris Jericho Is a Nice Change of Pace for CM Punk and WWE Championship

John NizinskiJun 7, 2018

Chris Jericho is proving why he is the best in the world at what he does.

When Jericho returned to the company earlier this year, it was unclear exactly why he was returning or whether he would return as a face or heel. Jericho has come back doing what he does best. That is, being a heel that gets inside his opponent's head and tries to get them to be mentally unstable.

Jericho will take on CM Punk at WrestleMania 28 for the WWE Championship. His rivalry with Punk has really picked up as of late and has gotten a true direction.

Punk has really only had a real feud with Dolph Ziggler since becoming champion. He himself, is a refreshing champion, but has lacked solid storylines. However, Jericho has made this feud what it was expected to be.

Both Jericho and Punk are solid in-ring wrestlers, but are also solid on the mic. So when they began feuding, it was intriguing to think of the mic wars. Jericho has flipped the table on CM Punk, who is used to having the upper-hand in cutting promos against his opponent.

Over the last two weeks, Jericho is getting the best of Punk in promos. On RAW, Jericho delivered a message to Punk that called out his father being an alcoholic. He obviously hit a nerve with Punk. Jericho one-upped himself by then calling out Punk's sister for being a drug addict.

This has made the rivalry refreshingly psychological and makes it a nice change of pace. Instead of just attacking each other every week and seeing the same thing, Jericho has increased the tension more with his mind games.

Jericho has been "punking" Punk and it is a breath of fresh air. The intensity of this rivalry will should only increase as we get closer and closer to their match at WrestleMania 28.
