NFL Draft 2012: 4 Potential Late-Round Mike Wallace Replacements for Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers would love to re-sign Mike Wallace. But, if they cannot re-sign their speedy young receiver, are there any late-round draft choices who could help replace him?
The late rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft are a prime spot for finding interesting wide receiver prospects.
But can any of them replace a talent like Mike Wallace?
T.Y. Hilton, Florida International
1 of 4Hilton could replace Wallace's speed. He ran a blazing 4.36 40-yard dash for NFL scouts according to FIU Assistant Sports Director Brandon Wise, which is similar to Wallace's top-notch speed.
He also has steady hands and runs good routes, dropping only one pass while catching balls from quarterback Wesley Carroll at a recent NFL Pro Day. The display impressed NFL scouts, but he may fall on draft day because of his quadriceps injury.
Either way, he may be able to provide some speed and reliability that the Steelers will need if they lose Wallace.
Devon Wylie, Fresno State
2 of 4Wylie is not a very similar player to Wallace, but he could replace some of his production at wide receiver.
The Fresno State senior is most similar to Wes Welker. His precise routes and cuts make him a speedy, ideal slot receiver in a high-octane offense.
So, the Steelers would still need a deep threat to replace Wallace, but Wylie could definitely help if the Steelers lose their star.
Jarius Wright, Arkansas
3 of 4Jarius Wright is the most underrated wide receiver in the country. He could come closest to replacing Mike Wallace's production for the Steelers.
He was a first team All-SEC star as a senior. Wright also caught 66 catches for over 1,000 yards as a senior and improved every year at Arkansas. Combined with his incredible speed, Wright may be the biggest steal available on draft day.
Tommy Streeter, Miami
4 of 4Streeter finally had a big year for Miami in 2011. He is a one-year wonder, but teams have to be thrilled by his exceptional mix of size and speed.
He may shoot up the boards on draft day.
The Steelers should look at him because he has the most talent of any receiver available after the third round. He could definitely help replace Mike Wallace.
