28 Days of 'Mania: What Else Does Creative Have in Store for Us in Miami?

David LevinJun 2, 2018

Disclaimer: This will be an ongoing series for the next 28 days leading up to the biggest event in sports entertainment, WrestleMania 28.

The idea behind the piece is to build more momentum for the event and give you, the Bleacher Report fan, a chance to read, comment and weigh in with opinions about the WWE, the business and the event.

It is my hope this becomes something positive and we all enjoy the ride for the next four weeks to Miami and the biggest event of the wrestling year. Enjoy.

I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know, the one that makes sense of everything or the one that makes everything seem a little off kilter.

Because it is wrestling, there are more things to be shaken than put into place. And with the shenanigans that have been going on lately with Smackdown and Raw, I figure there is an end to this madness in 16 days.

An end for the moment, at least.

We have a basic card set with matches that we know will blow the roof off the arena in Miami, and we have superstars who we know will give us their best (they had better for $49.95). But there still has to be more. There still has to be a key element that brings everything together, a hook or the arc that nobody saw.

Yes, I am the cynic of wrestling, can't you tell? I am the one who thinks the Midnight Rider will still come out of the west and make it all better. That the Original Four Horsemen can make magic with a broom handle and that Scott Hall and Curt Hennig could have carried wrestling if they were properly handled.

How about more surprises this year? Forget The Rock in the main event. How about Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara beating Epico and Primo for the World Tag Titles?

How about Kharma making a statement in some way that she is ready to destroy Beth Phoenix? How about Randy Orton joining Team Long and Kane joining Team Laurinaitis? What about someone like R-Truth really taking a major role in the company and getting rid of his "Little Jimmy shtick?"

They are all great thoughts, but execution speaks volumes. Words, in this case, are just words. Creative has done a pretty good job building the matches so far.

CM Punk and Chris Jericho seem to be the two wrestlers who are taking what they are being giving and running with it.

Daniel Bryan is becoming more rigid (he needs fiber in his diet, I think) and it would appear he is ready to drop the World Title with the assistance of AJ.

Welcome to the World Title, Sheamus.

I like the premise behind Cody Rhodes and Big Show, but I have never liked the "David vs. Goliath" matches. Rhodes will drop his Intercontinental Title in Miami, and hopefully that springboards him toward a match and series with Sheamus in the future.

But we still need something more. Name calling by The Rock doesn't get it done, and John Cena seems to be gaining more fans while "Dwayne" is losing touch with the fans who once loved him.

It happens. We all may not like it, but it is possible he isn't as electrifying as he once was. Generations change and people's perceptions grow tired. They go hand in hand. Cena remains a constant for some reason.

The Randy Orton/Kane match intrigues me a great deal. It's a nice angle. It's also one where we could see Kane help Randy get over and make a "heel" turn. And for some reason, those two together have legs that could go for a while and cause all kinds of trouble in the WWE and Smackdown.

And of course, we have the curious case of Santino Marella, who cannot get over for anything. Does the cartoon-like character have the charisma to become a true champion? We shall leave this in the hands of creative.

Yes, that's a start. There is still a need for something to happen and another shoe to drop. But for now, we will have to be content with what the WWE has already started.
