Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Last-Second Destinations for Ray Allen

Maxwell OgdenJun 7, 2018

With the 2012 NBA Trade Deadline just hours away, one of the surprising names appearing on trade radars is the Boston Celtics' Ray Allen.

Despite shooting 47 percent from the field and a career-best 47 percent from distance, Allen has become the most expendable piece the Celtics have. With multiple contenders all looking for an upgrade at the 2, however, Allen may have to continue this pace in another uniform.

In just a few hours, we'll know where that will be.

Atlanta Hawks

1 of 5

If rumors that the Boston Celtics are pursuing Josh Smith pan out as true, Ray Allen's inclusion could be instrumental to getting the deal done.

While the Hawks already have Joe Johnson at the 2, as well as Willie Green on the bench, the Celtics' selection of available trade options is rather slim behind Allen and Kevin Garnett.

With Rondo locked up, both might need to be included to acquire a difference-maker like Smith.

Indiana Pacers

2 of 5

Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge reportedly offered Ray Allen to the Indiana Pacers for Tyler Hansbrough and a first-round draft pick. Larry Bird declined and, clearly, Allen stayed in Boston.

With that being said, that doesn't mean the trade is off. The Pacers have voiced their need for a 2 via an attempt at acquiring O.J. Mayo. If the deal is short-term, Ray Allen is an upgraded candidate.

Los Angeles Clippers

3 of 5

As reported by Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated, the Los Angeles Clippers are very interested in acquiring Ray Allen. While some have suggested they might take the route of free agency, don't think that the chance of a trade isn't present.

With Jamal Crawford Trail Blazers reportedly the next best option, the Clippers might side with Allen's knack for making the big shot. They might also side with the much higher efficiency.

Minnesota Timberwolves

With the Celtics reportedly interested in Michael Beasley, the Big Three could indeed be broken up. While Paul Pierce is apparently available, it's hard to imagine Minnesota wouldn't ask for help in the backcourt after Ricky Rubio's injury.

While Luke Ridnour holds down the fort at the point guard position, the 2 is a bit of a question mark. Wayne Ellington has underachieved in some eyes and the depth beyond Wes Johnson is weak.

Don't be shocked if this deal comes to fruition.

Orlando Magic

5 of 5

While the Magic have yet to place their name in the Ray Allen sweepstakes, Dwight Howard's recent decision to stay through next season calls the Magic's original plan back into order.

While Allen may not be the superstar talent that Howard was looking for, he's one of the greatest shooters of all time and would offer the Magic a drastic improvement at the 2.

His championship pedigree is also certain to intrigue D-12 as he pursues his first championship.
