NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Must Land Michael Beasley in 3-Way Trade
Minnesota Timberwolves are aiming for a deal that could potentially land Michael Beasley in a purple and gold uniform.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports let the cat out of the bag about this mega-trade.
It would apparently involve Jamal Crawford going to Minnesota to fill their hole at shooting guard. It is currently unknown what L.A. would be giving up to get the 23-year-old SF from the Timberwolves.
This trade just makes sense for all parties.
Los Angeles desperately needs an athletic, young player at the 3 and Beasley gives them exactly that. Metta World Peace is clearly washed up or not playing up to his ability this season and needs to be replaced.
"B-EZ" would give them another scoring option on the floor and ability to defend other wings. It also gives an aging roster a breath of fresh air.
Minny would finally have a productive SG who can create his own shot and score at will in Crawford. He will help heal the damage that Ricky Rubio’s season-ending injury did to their backcourt.
The Portland Trail Blazers most likely will get young players or draft picks to make this happen, as they have little hope of contending this year and are best served to reload in the stacked 2012 draft class. They likely have no chance of Crawford picking up his player option next year and would like to move him before losing him for nothing.
This potential trade will mutually help all three Western Conference teams accomplish their goals in the long and short term.
There is no reason for L.A. to say "no" to this unless the other teams are asking for too much in return, but it’s highly doubtful Beasley is being sold high at this point in the season and this near to the deadline.
