NFL Free Agent Signings: How Top Free Agents Will Fit into New Surroundings

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

It didn't take long for teams to sign some big-name free agents when the NFL's free agency kicked off on Tuesday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a big splash, as did the St. Louis Rams.

As for Reggie Wayne potentially going somewhere in a package deal with Peyton Manning? You can forget about that. He signed for three more years with the Indianapolis Colts.

Here's a look some top free agents who signed on Tuesday and how they will fit on their new teams.

3. Cortland Finnegan, CB

The former pesky Tennessee Titans cornerback signed a five-year, $50 million deal with the Rams on Tuesday, bolstering the secondary in the wake of Jeff Fisher's hiring.

Fisher, of course, coached Finnegan in Tennessee, and he's well aware of the impact this guy can have. Finnegan isn't going to get you a lot of interceptions, but he's a physical player who tackles well. He should be a fixture in St. Louis for years to come.

2. Vincent Jackson, WR

Vincent Jackson, one of the top receivers on the market, signed a five-year, $55 million deal with the Buccaneers on Tuesday.

Mike Williams disappointed last season with the Buccaneers, but he also didn't have much help opposite him. Now you have two legit threats on both sides of the field who are going to make life much, much easier for quarterback Josh Freeman.

1. Carl Nicks, G

Josh Freeman is likely more happy than Bucs fans right now. He gets a clear-cut No. 1 receiver and an elite guard in Carl Nicks? Let's put it this way: Freeman's numbers in 2012 will resemble 2010's more than 2011's.

The Buccaneers made Nicks the highest-paid guard in the league on Tuesday, giving him a five-year, $47.5 million deal. Was he worth it? Well, he is one of the top guards in the league, and he comes with a ringing endorsement from Drew Brees.

With Jackson, Nicks and cornerback Eric Wright, the Buccaneers learned this from the 2011 offseason: Don't get complacent.
