The Lions will lock up the premier wideout in the NFL for the next several years, while creating salary cap relief this season by pushing money out into future seasons.

This should allow the team to re-sign their own free agents including Jeff Backus and Stephen Tulloch while also putting them in play for other players.

Additionally, the Lions will probably get to work on eliminating Cliff Avril's $10 million franchise tag and get a long-term deal done for him as well. This again will free up more money to use this off-season.

Along with the contract modifications of Matthew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh and Nate Burleson, the Lions have gone from $7 million over the cap to approximately $14 million under the cap.

Rejoice, Lions fans. Calvin Johnson shows he is a team player and the key players on this team have all stepped up and shown they are here for the long haul!!
