Houston Astros: Colt 45s Throwback and Their Eight Best Jerseys Ever

Brandon CroceJun 3, 2018

This season will be the 50th anniversary for the Houston Astros and one of the ways they will be remembering the team's history is with Flashback Fridays. The team will be wearing different throwback jerseys for every Friday home game.

This recently raised some controversy, as MLB said the team could not use the original Colt .45 jersey with the pistol across the chest. The team would have worn the jersey on the right, however the league recently reversed their decision and decided the team to allow to wear the jersey on the left.

These are some other top jerseys the Astros have had and fans may see this coming season.

Current Home Jerseys (2000-Present)

The Astros started wearing these home jerseys during the 2000 season and in my opinion is the team's best jersey. They have a classic look to them, and these are the jerseys the team wore during their only World Series appearance. This is also the longest jersey the team has worn in their history, which now sits at 12 years.

Futuristic Astros (1994-1999)

From the best to the worst in this road jersey that was donned from 1994 to 1999. Even though this jersey has that futuristic feel, they are no where near as bad as some of these.

Red Alternate Jerseys (2004-Present)

These jerseys started out as alternates for the Astros starting in 2004, and fans really started to like them, so the team started using them primarily as road jerseys in 2008. I know the team is looking into possible uniform changes for next season but hopefully they don't get rid of these.

Home Jersey (1980-1986)

The jersey many remember from the 80s is the rainbow-looking jersey, but Houston also wore these during home games from 1980 to 1986. I think these are a little better looking than the more famous jerseys.

Home Jersey (1971-1975)

Before Joe Morgan made a name for himself with the Reds, he wore this Astros jersey during the 1971 season. This was the first jersey that was dominated by the color orange, and it didn't take long before they were wearing almost all orange.

Home and Road Jersey (1975-1979)

These are the jerseys the Astros wore at home and on the road from 1975-1979. Other than the rainbow-looking jerseys, there was a unique feature on these uniforms. It was one of the first times that players numbers were on the pants.

Colt .45s (1962-1964)

7 of 8

This was the first jersey for the Houston organization, but it lasted for only two seasons. The reason was because issues arose over merchandising and use of the name Colt .45. The owner at the time, Judge Roy Hofheinz, decided to embrace the expanding space program in Houston and give the team the nickname the Astros.

Home Jersey (1965-1970)

This was the new jerseys the newly named Astros wore for the first five years at their new stadium, the Astrodome. The one thing that didn't change though, from the Colt .45 jerseys to these, was the color scheme that was predominantly blue with orange.
