WWE: Why the Effort to Push John Cena over The Rock Is Failing

Giulio RomanoJun 1, 2018

John Cena and The Rock's feud is getting very personal. There is mentioning of mothers now—the gloves are off.

Despite this evidently being the most-watched match of all time, the build up is not quite on the level of say, Triple H  vs. The Undertaker. The WWE has it in its mind that people are really going to be divided 50/50 in Miami on April 1—that is purely delusional.

John Cena is the "face" of the company at the moment, and for the near future, but The Rock is The Rock, self-explanatory.

John Cena Is Booed

Yes, it is getting louder and louder. The fans are not all behind the leader of Cenation as they once were, and for good reason. The man's gimmick has reached its limits and it is time for a change.

He is even starting to get cocky, no-selling promos sent his direction, interrupting his opponent when he is speaking and worst of the worst, he smiles about it.

There are millions out there just waiting for WrestleMania XXVIII when The Rock will slap that smirk off John Cena's face. It will be a glorious moment.

Coming out in old-school gear is a refreshing change, and it would surely be successful with the fans should Cena adopt a more villainous persona.

No One Buys in to This Deception

The title of this article reads as follows: "Why the effort to push John Cena over The Rock is failing."

Dwayne Johnson is a legend of this business. He helped win the ratings war, he is one of those three guys (along with Hogan and Austin) who MADE pro-wrestling. There is a legion of people who follow him, and even though everyone knows this is scripted, no one in their right mind can ever believe John Cena is going to win clean.

It just doesn't compute. All this hype, all this drama over The Rock's return only to have him lose in the end? WWE fans aren't stupid. It will be an amazing match, out of this world actually, but there can be only one winner and his name is—ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY!

The truth is, why should he lose anyway? It's not like he is 45 or 50 and over the hill after all. He is in phenomenal shape and a great athlete...he can take Cena no problem.

If The Rock loses, Miami (and Montreal) will riot!

The Rock Is The Rock, Period!

You cannot really force something down one's throat and hope that it'll stay there.

John Cena has made his mark on the business and will be known as a legend in time, but until that time comes, he is not The Rock. That one is an icon, there is a difference.

Rocky asked the audience if there were grown men out there supporting John Cena. How many were there? Three? Adults come to see The Rock in Miami, not Superman.

Yes, it's true, Cenation appeals to kids and women, but children don't have money so they have no say in anything. Women love The Rock as much as John Cena if not more (I know my ladies prefer dark meat over white meat in this case).

All the contributions and merits acquired make John Cena an honorable man who has earned respect, no doubt about it, but this is The Rock we are talking about...The Rock! I mean come on, it's THE ROCK!

No contest.

There You Have It

This is going to be an amazing match despite the feud being a little bland so far. There are still some two weeks of Monday Night RAWs left to take this to another level, but time is of the essence.

No one needs to fight yet, but a surprise finisher by one or the other would be welcome.

The Rock says it best, and quite often too, everyone sees right through John Cena, and for that matter the WWE, as they attempt to make this an equal contest when it isn't.

WrestleMania XXVIII is going to exceed expectations, and it's because The Great One is on the card. They don't call him that for nothing, and no amount of force feeding a pseudo-thug's rap lines down people's throats is going to change anything.
