Peyton Manning Rumors: Respected Beat Writer, Owner Nix Manning to Houston Talk
๏ปฟThe Houston Chronicle's John McClain is one of the most respected beat writers in all the National Football League, and according to McClain quarterback Matt Scahub is in no danger of losing his starting job to this season's most coveted free agent.
McClain reiterated Tuesday that the Texans have expressed no interest in Peyton Manning, refuting an earlier tweet by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly that Manning had scheduled a visit to Houston.
"Peyton Manning to visit Houston now!!!! Manning is turning into quite the home wrecker. Wonder how quickly Matt... sulia.com/c/nfl-free-ageโฆ

McClain rebuffed that tweet in a blog Tuesday, stating that not only was no visit scheduled but that none would be forthcoming.
"Once again, the Texans arenโt involved in the Manning sweepstakes.
The Texans remain committed to Matt Schaub, who is ahead of schedule on rehab from foot surgery. They think they have a good thing going right now. Theyโre trying to keep as much of their team together as they can. They wonโt be big players in the free agent market as they were last year.
Manning may end up in the AFC and he may end up in the AFC South, but it wonโt be with the Texans.
Owner Bob McNair is going to be available Tuesday on the Texansโ All-Access show at Sports Radio 610. Heโs going to be on the air from 12:30 to 1:30, and then heโll meet with the rest of us. I expect him to have an explanation about why the Texans remain committed to Schaub and arenโt involved in the pursuit of Manning.
"
McNair did indeed make that radio appearance, and the Houston Texans owner seem to put to rest any chance that Manning would be a target of the Texans.
""If there were an ideal club for him to be with, if it was just his decision alone, it would be the Texans because that gives him the best chance to win and that's really what he's looking for," McNair said Tuesday during a radio interview with KILT-AM. "But, we have a quarterback that we're happy with. Now the teams that he's talking to are the teams that don't have a quarterback and they're taking the risk of bringing a player in that they haven't even worked out."
"
So, while any number of teams remain involved in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, it appears that as free agency officially opens we can cross the Texans off the list.
