WWE Raw: John Cena vs The Rock in Rap vs Rock Battle, Vote on Who Won the Battle

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 4, 2018

Last night on Raw we got to see John Cena vs The Rock in a rap vs rock concert that was quite possibly the best segments for both men so far in this feud.

John Cena came out to his old theme and did a rap promo in the same style he used to blast opponents when he first started rising to super-stardom.

The Rock would not be outdone as he had the Cleveland crowd in the palm of his hand as he proceeded to deliver what is one of his best segments in his entire career.

Both men went to the limit on the adult-themed content and Cena actually had to be censored for a certain line about chicken feces which I will not repeat here.

When re-watching the segments it is clear that Cena went for the "less is more" approach while Rocky tried to squeeze every second out of the USA Network for his show-ending segment.

The Rock did three things right to make this an amazing segment: He chose two amazing songs to parody for his insults towards Cena, he played to the hometown crowd and he broke character a bit and laughed so hard at one point that he could barely say the lyrics to the song.

Cena went straight for the jugular in his rap and his lyrics were clearly meant to show that he is not intimidated by The Rock and he will be there to fight come WrestleMania night.

The Rock is, for the most part, taking Cena seriously as a competitor, but when it comes to promos and interviews it is hard to compete with the guy who reinvented talking in the third person.

Cena has been called "The New Rock" in the past because they both have an in-your-face style of promo and they both have a set of moves which seem to align with one another.

Cena and Rock both had their finisher which are not really similar, but both end with the opponent being slammed on their back. Cena uses the STF as a finisher more than The Rock has used the Sharpshooter, but he has used the submission on dozens of occasions.

The People's Elbow and the Five Knuckle Shuffle are both moves which allow the person doing them to show off. They also both involve the person bouncing off the ropes and stopping short before striking their opponent.

Cena has his Fisherman Suplex and Rock has the Spine Buster. Both men are known to duke it out more than mat wrestle and both men will rarely utilize a drop kick.

The similarities run deep, but the characters themselves could not be more different. Raw proved that and I think many fans may be finding it hard to choose which extremely talented performer to root for.

The truth is that it is going to depend on who you were rooting for to begin with when you choose who you think won the battle, but there are many people who may have been undecided up until tonight who could sway the vote wither way.

The interesting thing about this is that neither man made an appearance during the other's segment. I fully expected one of them to either interrupt or attack the other at some point.

I think the fact that there has been no physical contact yet is actually making the tension level higher. The first punch thrown since last year will certainly send a message, regardless of who throws it.

So please, take a moment and re-watch both of the segments and then make you voice heard and cast your vote in the poll to let everyone know who you think won the rap vs rock battle.
