WWE: Why Is Beth Phoenix the Divas Champion When She's Rarely on TV?

Sharon GlencrossJun 7, 2018

For the Divas Champion—theoretically the best, most capable woman in the company, remember—Beth Phoenix sure has been missing from television a lot lately, making only sporadic and usually short appearances on Raw and Smackdown.

The only WWE show she is a regular on is Superstars; you know, the Internet-only show hardly anyone watches.

Hey, the situation has gotten so awful you have to wonder whether your average fan even realizes Phoenix is champion.

So why is Phoenix the champion when she is so rarely on television? Well, no one knows for sure, but we here at BR have devised a few theories...

They're Setting Up a Phoenix/Natalya Program

After spending the last couple of years on "The Dark Side," Natalya recently turned babyface in a backstage segment with evil diva Eve Torres.

Presumably her alliance with the still-heelish Beth is kaput now, and who knows? We could be heading for a program between the former friends over the Divas Championship.

Which may explain why WWE have chosen to keep the title on Phoenix instead of having her lose it to someone else.

The Creative Team Have Totally Forgotten About Her

Hey, we can't rule this out, either. It's very possible that many on the booking team have actually that forgotten Beth ever won the Divas Title, hence why she's held on to it for so long.

They're Setting Up a Beth Phoenix/Kharma Battle

It has been rumoured for months now that WWE were gearing up up for a Phoenix/Kharma feud at this year's WrestleMania.

However, the tragic news this week regarding Kharma's real-life pregnancy now throws a huge amount of doubt on that plan.

Indeed, judging by last week's Raw, they seem to be heading for an Eve Torres/Kelly Kelly showdown at WM instead.

They Want Her to Put Eve Over

4 of 5

Let's face it: with her superb promo skills and ability to garner red-hot crowd reactions, it is Eve, not Beth Phoenix, who is now the company's top female heel.

Indeed, ever since Eve turned on Raw a few weeks in her storyline with Zack Ryder and John Cena, her vain, gold-digging heel character has been a total revelation and has quickly turned into one of the highlights of the show.

No doubt, WWE have realized this too. And, in a bid to capitalize on this momentum, we wouldn't be surprised to see Phoenix called upon to drop the title to the Diva Search winner at some point very soon.

WWE Still Have Faith in Her

Despite her abysmal treatment on WWE television in recent times, it is entirely possible the company still have a great deal of faith in their feisty Divas Champion, still one of the few women in the company who is a capable and well-rounded in-ring performer, and are simply waiting for the right storyline to push her in.
