Eagles Rumors: Philly Not Interested in Peyton Manning

To all of you Eagles fans who are amped up about the prospect of Peyton Manning playing in Philly next season—hold your horses, because Andy Reid pretty much admitted that will never happen.

Earlier this week, when he was asked about the possibility of the Eagles entering the Manning sweepstakes, the head coach told the Philadelphia Daily News:

"We're obviously happy with Michael [Vick]. You could ask that question of probably everybody in the National Football League except the Giants, right? … That's not something we're—we're happy with Michael."

So there you have it. The man behind center next season will be, barring all disasters, Vick. Reid did admit that he met with Robert Griffin III at the NFL combine, but he said he likes to meet with all the quarterbacks.

Of RGIII, Reid told the Daily News:

"I was impressed with him. He did a nice job in our interview. Good kid, smart."

In three seasons with the Eagles, Vick—who will be 32 next season—has played in 37 games, throwing for 6,407 yards, 40 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. His best season with Philadelphia came in 2010, when he started 11 games and threw for 3,018 yards and 21 touchdowns against just six picks.

After taking over the starting role for good in 2010, Vick has been steadily improving, and there is no indication that it will stop any time soon as he gets more comfortable with his head coach and with the system in Philadelphia. Giving up on him now would be a mistake: In him, the Eagles have a quarterback who is a proven weapon—and that's not a certainty with Manning anymore.

Reid did the right thing. He made certain the media, the fans and Vick himself know that the quarterback has a home in Philadelphia, so now at least they can move on with their lives while the rest of us anxiously await Manning's fate.
