2012 NFL Free-Agent Predictions: Desperate Teams Who Will Make Grave Mistakes
NFL free agency is high-stakes poker, and these teams are about to bust.
Desperation is oozing from all of these teams, and that's going to cause them to try and go for the quick fix of adding a big-time player in free agency. However, there are too many holes to fill to spend a big chunk of change on any one player.

Buffalo Bills
Cap Space: $30-35 million
The Bills have plenty of cap space and will look toward their hot start last year as a sign they are close to competing.
This will find them eager to find an impact player in free agency. The problem is that Buffalo is not going to be on the top of any free-agent list as a possible destination. This means the Bills are going to have to overspend to land any player.
The Bills signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a big contract extension when things were going well last year.
However, Fitz struggled down the stretch last season, and he's not the kind of QB the Bills need to lead them to the promise land. The problem is the Bills are now locked into Fitzpatrick. They will try and build the team around him, but this will only lead to them entering into more bad contracts.
Kansas City Chiefs
Cap Space: $60-63 million
The Chiefs have a ton of cap space. They are also coming off a rough, injury-plagued season. They will be desperate to return to the winning ways that found them winning the AFC West just the season before.
The reality is that the Chiefs are closer to the team that underwhelmed last season than the division winner from a two seasons ago.
This anemic offense needs a lot of work. Their offensive line is aging and full of holes. Yet, the Chiefs seem to think they are one player away. This much became clear when they reportedly offered a contract to Peyton Manning.
Kansas City needs to focus on filling multiple holes, not adding one big-time guy.
Arizona Cardinals
Cap Space: $12-14 million
The Cardinals do not have a ton of cap space, but they do have enough to add one big-time player. That is something they will be tempted to do.
That temptation is there because this team finished strong by winning seven of their last nine. However, all of those wins came in OT and/or by four or less points.
While that's impressive, it is also a bit of a fluke. A certain amount of luck goes into winning so many close games, and the Cardinals can't expect to get the same breaks next year.
The bottom line is that this team is not as close as their strong finish led people to believe. They have multiple holes on defense and still need a long-term answer at QB.
