Report: St. Louis Rams to Trade 2nd Overall Pick to Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins are reportedly set to trade the St. Louis Rams three first-round picks and a second-round pick in exchange for the Rams' second overall pick of this year's NFL draft, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
The Redskins are undoubtedly going to use their new pick to draft Robert Griffin III out of Baylor, who is a dynamic quarterback and world-class athlete. Griffin's stock has skyrocketed this offseason after the Colts went ahead and said that they were taking Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the draft.
The Rams were smart to trade their pick when Griffin's popularity was at its peak. They really won out on this trade. They only moved back four spots in this year's draft in return for two future first-round picks and a future second-round pick. Considering St. Louis' ransom, this may go down in history as one of the biggest rip-offs in NFL draft history, and I mean that in all seriousness.
I am going to be honest here. I have never been that big of a Robert Griffin III fan. I have watched a lot of tape on him and have seen nothing that makes me think he is worth anything remotely close to three first-round picks and a second-rounder. Sure, he is a good quarterback, but he is way over-hyped and isn't nearly as good as public perception says he is.
What I am going to do is give you guys a link to a bunch of Robert Griffin III footage, and I want you guys to tell me if you think he is worth the incredibly high price tag that the Redskins just paid for him. Please, I invite you to tell me what in the tape justifies giving up four incredibly valuable picks. Here is the link to the tape.
And I wanted to just add one more thing. A few months ago (before we knew that Indianapolis wasn't going to trade its first overall pick) the common speculative going price for the Colts' pick was only three first-rounders, and that pick would have been used to take Andrew Luck.
Luck is supposed to be a once-in-a-decade quarterback prospect. The Redskins just gave up more for someone who isn't as good as Luck.
