WWE WrestleMania 28 and The Miz: Why These Opponents Would Have Been Awesome!

Giulio RomanoJun 3, 2018

When WrestleMania XXVIII rolls in on April 1, history will be made once more in the WWE.

The Rock will take on John Cena in the clash of a lifetime and Triple H will attempt to strike out The Undertaker once and for all inside the deadly structure known as "Hell in a Cell."

No one can forget the epic battle for the WWE championship as Chris Jericho and CM Punk tear each other apart to determine who is the best in the world.

All this is fantastic but...where in the world is last year's main-eventer The Miz on the card?

As of right this minute, he is nowhere to be found and as the days go by, his chances get slimmer and slimmer. There is still some time for things to happen but with so many Superstars already busy or injured, it does not bode well for the Awesome One.

Suppose he would have taken a different route to end up on the grandest stage of them all...who could he have picked? Which Superstars could The Miz have used as stepping stones on his way to even greater heights?

Only one way to find out...flip the page.

Alberto Del Rio

Vendettas, whether personal or scripted, have always been a great way to enhance a pro-wrestling storyline over the years.

Take Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart for instance. The greatest rivalry of our time started out as friendly competition between two up and coming Superstars and grew to become genuine hatred for one another. Such intense energy translated into spectacular matches and must-see television in the late 90s.

A few weeks ago, Alberto Del Rio was interviewed by San Francisco's 95.7 station and had some intense things to say about co-former WWE Champion, The Miz.

In a nutshell it reads:

“I hate The Miz. This is not part of the show. I really dislike like that guy. I’ve tried to punch him in the face several times, not in the ring, I mean outside the ring. He’s like a little girl. He’s always running away from me …

"There’s a big difference between The Miz and I,” Del Rio said. “I’m a real athlete.

"He’s just a loud, stupid little kid. He’s one of those guys who was probably bullied when he was in school and that’s the reason now that he’s so loud and he wants to get attention from everybody.”

If WWE can somehow turn this personal beef into a real feud, it would make for some very exciting moments. Both performers could unleash their dislike/hatred for one another and it would come in the form of superb promos (hopefully Del Rio can deliver one of those some day).

Alberto Del Rio comes off as the spoiled, rich bully who can serve to push The Miz into a "face" run as the Awesome One is clearly the underdog in this fight.

Does this have the smell of jealousy written all over it? Jealousy...that little green monster...

Mick Foley

When approached with the question: "Which current Superstars would you like to take on if you should ever have one more match?" Mick Foley mentions The Miz.

According to this interview, the hardcore legend says that it would be a natural thing to feud with such a character and he admits to probably being torn apart in a promo war but would be able to retaliate fairly well on his own. The fun starts at 18:45.

Foley is known to be a genuinely nice guy who loves to work with fast-rising stars and put them over. He did it for Edge in the past, could a match with The Miz at WrestleMania XXVIII be possible? Of course it is.

There is still time to make it happen. All the Awesome One needs to do is keep on yelling about not being included and cue the "Bang Bang!" entrance theme. With the 20 days remaining until the big show, Mick Foley and The Miz could go at it and create some magic of their own.

Since his character seems to be in limbo right now, this would be a golden opportunity for The Miz to shine and start a nice "tweener to face" turn in 2012. Mick Foley would have that one match he requested and the WWE Universe would be a much happier place for all mankind.

Triple H

When The Miz was WWE Champion, the last person I expected him to lose the belt to was John Cena.

His title victory meant absolutely nothing; neither do his accumulated championship reigns. It only serves to devalue the title, which has found new life in the firm grasp of CM Punk.

What if Miz had kept his title a little while longer?

All that boasting and claiming he is Must-See this, Awesome that would have dug out the Cerebral Assassin around the same time as the whole Punk-COO thing. Triple H could have inserted himself in the title scene and at SummerSlam, the two would have been going at it.

The event of the summer would have been Chapter 1. The Game as a transitional champion, ready for a CM Punk takeover as scheduled.

Chapter 2 could have begun around the Royal Rumble with Miz or Hunter costing each other something of value like a title or position, and the rest would be history in the making.

There is great potential here. Not for nothing this happens. With all these older guys either leaving or on their last run, there is little time left to mix and match past, present and future.

Again, everything happens for a reason in this company, and with all the so-called beef The Miz has on him may only serve to propel him to the next stage of his career.

A match with The Cerebral Assassin, The Game, The King of Kings and 13-time former World Champion, Triple H is in the Awesome One's future.

It will be bloody, vicious and hilarious but in the end, the upset victory will make headlines and be downright awesome!

The Future

4 of 4

Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes...hopefully all of them will be part of WWE for years to come and they should all cross paths with The Miz in there somewhere. It is inevitable.

To some, the future crop of talent is being eclipsed by the veterans and legends of this sport at WrestleMania XXVIII. Put it this way, if you are not on the card yet, it's because you just don't cut the mustard yet. Work harder!

Simple WWE booking 101 suggests that it is only a matter of time before The Miz's purpose at the grand spectacle be revealed but in the meantime, he and those like him must pay attention to detail and give their 150 percent immediately.

With a roster as rich in talent WWE has right now, it is only a matter of time before all the up-and-comers come to blows with each other and show the world the meaning of the word "awesome."
