WWE News: Big Update on The Rock's WWE Future After WrestleMania 28

Drake OzJun 4, 2018

When The Rock vowed last year that he would never leave the WWE again only to do just that, it pissed off a lot of people, from fans to the boys backstage.

But let’s be real here: The Rock never said he’s going to be wrestling full-time or appearing on Monday Night Raw every week. He just meant that he’d be around a lot more than he used to, or as much as his Hollywood schedule will allow him to.

As you’re about to find out, The Rock has a lot on his acting plate coming up, and this could have a drastic effect on his upcoming involvement with the WWE, as well as what happens at WrestleMania 28 and after it.

After WrestleMania 28, The Rock will be filming Fast Six, Pain & Gain and Hercules back-to-back, which will keep him very busy until the end of 2012. Rock has several other projects lined up after that (including Ciudad), so it is unlikely we will see him on WWE television on a regular basis.

Vince McMahon stated months ago that Rock had agreed to do participate in multiple pay-per-view events this year and there has been talk of him doing something at SummerSlam. At the WrestleMania 29 press conference, Rock said he will be participating in next year’s show as well.

While I never expect to see The Rock back in the WWE on a week-by-week basis, it’ll be interesting to see if his rumored involvement at SummerSlam and reports that he will be wrestling at WrestleMania 29 will change the WWE’s plans going forward.

Almost every wrestling fan seems to have Cena as a shoe-in for a clean victory over The Rock at WrestleMania 28, and while I think that’s the finish that makes the most sense, there are just so many other factors to take into consideration.

Will The Rock be wrestling at SummerSlam? Is there any chance that The Rock faces Cena at WrestleMania 29? Will The Rock be moving onto a feud with someone other than Cena (perhaps The Miz) after WrestleMania 28?

The answers to these questions will affect how often The Rock appears on WWE TV post-WrestleMania, how the creative team books the Rock/Cena match, and so on and so forth. But no one seems to know for sure exactly what’s going to happen with The Rock once WrestleMania 28 is in the rear-view mirror.

If he’s going to stick around, the WWE full-timers might not be happy, but it’ll probably wind up being good for business. The Rock draws, and if he has any desire to compete again after Mania, I don’t doubt that he will wrestle another match or two and continue draw some more.
