NBA Trade Rumors: Chicago Bulls Shouldn't Be Content with Roster

The Chicago Bulls and head coach Tom Thibodeau should not remain content with the roster they have before the 2012 NBA trade deadline.

The Bulls need a couple pieces, and they shouldn't settle for anything less if they want to be considered legitimate contenders in the NBA.

They need depth, and they need to think about how they can best support superstar Derrick Rose.

In an Eastern Conference that boasts the likes of the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and still dangerous Boston Celtics—that is a must.

Apparently Thibodeau is not of the same opinion though, according to Nick Borges of ESPN Insider:

The Chicago Bulls currently own the top spot in the Eastern Conference and it sounds like they are not going to make any trades by March 15.

"If we don't do anything, we feel very good about the people we have," head coach Tom Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune. "We feel depth is one of our strengths, and we have more than enough to win with."

Not making a move by the deadline to shore up this team and fill in some of the weakness would be a horrible mistake by the Bulls.

They are great team, as evidence by their 33-8 record and current top spot in East, but everybody knows that the playoffs bring a whole different ball game.

In the playoffs, it's all about attrition and the x-factor. The other team has more than one chance to beat you, which means they have more than one chance to figure you out.

We all know Derrick Rose will play a huge rule in the Bulls' success, but what about after that?

What happens when a team like the Heat or Celtics is able to focus on stopping Rose?

It's all about depth.

The Bulls do have some very nice players coming off the bench—mainly in Taj Gibson and Kyle Korver—but what happens when things break down?

Something always breaks down in the playoffs.

Richard Hamilton has been struggling with injuries, and we all know Carlos Boozer has a history of not being able to stay healthy.

Worst case scenario—one of those two gets hurt during a playoff run. All of a sudden, it's all on Rose, and in this Eastern conference, that's not going to work.

The moral of the story is that no matter where this Bulls team is right now, they need to think about the long term success of the team.

Chicago needs one or two more veteran players that they can bring off the bench that can add leadership and valuable playing time if need be.

Injuries can happen at any time, and even though their depth is good, it can always get better.

If the Bulls want to be successful in the 2012 NBA playoffs, they cannot remain content with this roster.
