Peyton Manning: Should QB Sign with Dolphins, Redskins, Seahawks or Jets?

John RozumMay 31, 2018

The Indianapolis Colts released Peyton Manning on Wednesday during a press conference with owner Jim Irsay and the now free-agent QB.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN first broke this news on Tuesday:

"

Peyton Manning's 14-year career with the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end after owner Jim Irsay informed the four-time NFL MVP on Monday night that the team will release him, according to team sources.

That being said, Manning has been considered to be of interest to a number of franchises looking to upgrade at quarterback. Here are four of those teams and whether or not he should sign with that franchise.

Miami Dolphins

Arguably the best fit for Manning, the Miami Dolphins provide him with receiver Brandon Marshall, an emerging ground game with Reggie Bush, a reliable tight end in Anthony Fasano and a respectable offensive line.

Not to mention the Dolphins play Tom Brady and the New England Patriots twice a year, so renewing that rivalry will surely increase the NFL's brand even more. The Dolphins also have a new head coach in Joe Philbin who served as the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator from 2007-2011.

Philbin would easily and quickly build chemistry with Manning, and he would also make everyone else on the offense better. The Dolphins TV ratings would skyrocket, especially when they played the Pats, so it's a win-win for both parties.

Yes

Washington Redskins

Not nearly as appealing of a situation as the Miami Dolphins, but not the worst either. The Washington Redskins have a reputable head coach in Mike Shanahan and a sound defense led by veteran linebacker London Fletcher.

Lest we forget, Washington also swept the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants. So, winning against credible teams is appealing, but there's not much else thereafter.

The Redskins lack a ground game, have a skeptical offensive line and their best receiver in 2011 was 31-year-old Jabar Gaffney. Manning would undoubtedly make Shanahan's offense better, but at what cost to himself?

Washington still does not become an immediate Super Bowl-contending team with Manning, so here we have a no-go.

No

Seattle Seahawks

Regardless of who is under center for coach Pete Carroll in 2012, the Seattle Seahawks are a sneaky team. They have a great rushing attack, impressive defense and a core of receiving targets that is vastly underrated.

Peyton Manning to The Great Northwest would be an interesting move, because he'd immediately make the Seahawks the NFC West favorites.

With the offensive mind of Carroll, running back Marshawn Lynch going beast-mode each week and the defense slowing opponents down, Manning would thrive in Seattle. His best targets include Doug Baldwin, tight end Zach Miller and Sidney Rice, so not bad by comparison to other franchises.

Now, Seattle could get better at pass protection since the offensive line did allow 50 sacks in 2011. But, with Manning's quick release, the Seahawks would make significant strides next fall.

Yes (if not Miami)

New York Jets

Much like the Dolphins, Peyton Manning to the New York Jets would be great for the NFL brand as Gang Green has to play the Patriots and Tom Brady twice a season.

In addition, the Jets do have a solid receiving corps with Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress, as well as one of the most underrated tight ends in Dustin Keller. New York also has a reliable offensive line, but not an impressive ground game.

The defense remains stellar, but it does need to improve against the run. From an all-encompassed perspective, the Jets are an appealing franchise, but not like the Dolphins or Seahawks.
