WrestleMania 28: Who Will Challenge Beth Phoenix for the WWE Divas Championship?
The days are getting longer and the weather is getting hotter, yet time is running out for the Divas and their champion.
WrestleMania XXVIII is three weeks away, and there's still no title match for the Glamazon as of right now, but never count this force of nature just yet, as she seems to have a surprise waiting for the WWE Universe.
According to her Twitter, Beth Phoenix and Natalya are going to do something worth everyone's notice, but is it going to be big enough to land them on the card of perhaps the greatest show in company history?
No matter what, the Divas championship has never been defended on the grandest stage of them all, which means this could very well be a first in the history of the women's division.
Since winning the title in October, the Pin-Up Strong Champion has defeated all who stood against her and boldly claimed she would reign supreme for all time. Is there a worthy challenger out there smart or powerful enough to dethrone her? Maybe a combination could pull it off...
Here are a few ladies who could stand face to face with this amazon.
Layla
1 of 8Here she is, the last recognized Women's Champion in WWE history, and who did she pin to win her title?
You guessed it—none other than Beth Phoenix herself.
Although it was done so the Glamazon could take her leave and nurse her torn ACL, the thought of this "little" woman defeating her must still infuriate Beth's heart.
Now that Layla has come into her own person and retired Michelle McCool, it is time for her to return and challenge for what was once hers too (unofficially)—the Divas championship.
It seems ACLs and MCLs are at the center of many injuries in this company, and Layla left last May because she tore hers as well.
Now healed, it is time for the Flawless One to make an impact and take it to Beth Phoenix.
Madusa Miceli
2 of 8Now this one I would pay to see.
Madusa Miceli spent her time in WWE in the mid-90s under the name "Alundra Blayze" and took the ladies' division by storm.
She won the women's championship on three separate occasions and competed in one of the best matches of her career at SummerSlam 1994 against Bull Nakano.
She made headlines by appearing on WCW Nitro and tossing the title belt in a trash can.
Never again did she return to WWE. Is 2012 the year of her return?
According to their respective Twitter accounts, Beth Phoenix and Madusa have been trading comments with each other, claiming that one is far superior to the other. The former champion, who never actually lost her title, challenged the Glamazon to a match, and she already obliged.
Will it ever happen? Who would come out on top as the true Undisputed WWE Women's Champion?
Read below.
@Madusa_rocks bring the hate. It fuels me. #divaschampionforever
@TheBethPhoenix no hate...only love when I stomp that ass and take the Diva title too! Let the schooling begin!
Trish Stratus
3 of 8The former seven-time women's champion and legendary Diva has never battled Beth Phoenix one-on-one, and it is high time it happens in 2012.
Trish Stratus is a big name, and it takes big names to bring some prestige back to the Divas division.
Beth Phoenix cannot carry it all by herself, and she has defeated every single girl there besides Natalya, so going outside the roster would seem logical at this point.
Though she is retired, Trish did come back last year and team up with John Morrison and Jersey Shore star Snooki to defeat Dolph Ziggler, Layla and Michelle McCool.
Her inclusion caused some conflict backstage, but for no good reason, as she has paid her dues and earned her spot on the card.
Now, it would come down to the Diva of the Decade taking on the most dominant Diva of the moment for all the marbles. It is WrestleMania after all, which means nothing but the best for the WWE Universe.
It may happen, it may not—but both women are primed and ready for a fight.
Natalya
4 of 8The Divas of Doom united this past summer because they wanted to purge the WWE of all the so-called "Barbie Dolls" and rule supreme as real athletes.
So far, they have met some success (capturing the Divas title) and many failures (losses to Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox and Natalya's flatulence) but the true test has yet to come.
Which one of these best friends is the most dominant Diva in the company?
Natalya has been Divas champion before and knows what it means to be the best. Beth Phoenix does not share power, and if her recent actions tell a story, she seems to be quite tired of having someone following her around and farting all the time.
This match should have happened at last year's WrestleMania, and it is still upsetting to think Creative passed on it. Still, patience is a virtue, and now the Hart family Diva has gone through a change of attitude thanks to Eve Torres' actions toward Zack Ryder.
Will she gather up the courage to tell her friend, Beth Phoenix, she is not acting like a champion should?
If they do come to blows at Mania, it will be a match of at least 4-star quality, as both sisters of destruction are phenomenal athletes and performers.
Kharma
5 of 8Before anyone considers her in here, read this.
Despite her recent tragedy, Kharma is a strong Diva, and she may still surprise everyone (and herself) by coming back with a vengeance to face Beth Phoenix in April.
This is the dream match everyone has been waiting for, and the fear is that not enough time remains to truly make it the best showdown ever.
Kharma taking on the Glamazon may redefine women's wrestling in the WWE, and it should be planned carefully.
Precision and patience should be the key here. Three weeks is still enough time, but not a single minute needs to be wasted here.
At this point in time, it may be wiser to put this one on ice and wait until SummerSlam for the big match and take the whole spring/summer to work on it.
Divas Elimination Match
6 of 8What better way to demonstrate your dominance as champion than to defeat one Diva after another in some sort of elimination match.
A Divas Gauntlet match would be much appreciated by fans and a great way to showcase the awesome power of the Glamazon.
It hasn't been done before, plus WrestleMania is the place to make an impact, so why not give it a shot?
After the match, Kharma (if she is ready) could come to the ring and stare down Beth Phoenix.
That would prove to be one of the best Mania moments in Divas history.
Who would be included in this match? Who do the fans want to see get destroyed?
Kelly Kelly, The Bella Twins and Alicia Fox. Throw in Tamina in there for an actual threat, and you have yourself a nice, quality Divas match on the big show.
Take note, WWE...no Battle Royales (feminine for Divas) this year. That's an order!
Divas Handicap or Triple-Threat Match
7 of 8Now this alternative is not so groundbreaking, but it can be used to elevate the Divas Champion further and maybe even the challengers as well, provided they all work together to create some magic.
WrestleMania X-8 had a Triple Threat match that featured the Women's Champion at the time (Jazz) taking on future legends Trish Stratus and Lita. Watch it here.
You only need to have three good performers and put them in the ring together, and surely a good match could come of it. What remains is the story.
There isn't much happening right now in the Divas division besides Eve Torres acting like a total self-absorbed (insert mean word), and that is hardly WrestleMania-worthy, so what can be done between now and April 1?
Beth Phoenix can still feud with Tamina, and Natalya can continue her "face" turn in the meantime, so right there would be a great opportunity to have a three-way...match, of course!
Another option would be to have the Glamazon rip the Bella Twins to shreds, both at the same time. It is payback time for them for what they said to Kharma back in May, and if Vince McMahon is so fond of them and wants to have them appear on the show, then a good old ass-whoopin' at the hands of the Divas Champion puts a smile on every fan's face.
No matter what, the time has not come for the end yet, and Beth Phoenix will still be champion after WrestleMania XXVIII.
It Doesn't Really Matter
8 of 8Beth Phoenix will destroy them all.
It is only a matter of time before she eventually shows herself on TV again.
Beth Phoenix dominates and emulates power incarnate, there is no hiding from her nor is there a challenger ready for her assaults at this time.
Putting her on the WrestleMania card can only be beneficial for the Divas division, and in 2012, with powerful women everywhere, there is no right or logical reason as to why they should be disregarded.
WWE must do the right thing and have the Glamazon defend her championship at the Show of Shows therefore making history once again.
She deserves it, the Divas deserve it and the fans deserve to have a quality ladies match for once.
Anything less would be uncivilized.
