WWE News: John Cena Rapping and The Rock Singing Will Take Feud to New Level

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

It became clear on Monday Night RAW that John Cena and The Rock are feeling pressure to match the hype. Neither superstar is living up to their usual high standards, but that will change next week when Cena raps and Rocky holds a concert of his own.

Nick Paglino of Wrestle Zone passed along news of the special event for next Monday. Since the show is being held in Cleveland, where the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is located, a week of different-style promos make sense.

While the WWE Universe likes to debate which star comes out on top after each week, in reality both guys are losing right now. It feels like both Cena and Rock are being held back to an extent so neither one gets buried before April 1.

Each time they've been in the ring together since Rocky returned, one guy has basically executed a hit-and-run attack to avoid direct conflict.

That can't continue if the storyline is going to maintain its elite status. They are being challenged by Triple H vs. Undertaker and CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho for that top spot. It will be the main event, but a few more weeks of lackluster showings could allow one of those other matches to steal the show.

Allowing both guys to change things up a bit should make fans happy and allow the feud to starting gaining momentum again.

Whether you enjoyed Cena's rapping back in the day or not, everybody should agree it was a lot better than his stale character now. At least he brought something different to the table back then. Now you know exactly what you're going to get.

He received a pretty favorable response in his hometown last night, but that won't be the case in other arenas over the next month. If the WWE wants his support to keep growing leading up to WrestleMania, the creative team will need to reach into its bag of tricks for things like raps.

The Rock, on the other hand, is an entertainer first and foremost. Giving him the opportunity to sing a couple songs about Cena should reinforce the support he already has and show a different side of him to fans who might not have witnessed his prime years.

Make no mistake, the pair's match in Miami is going to be among the biggest WWE events of all time no matter what happens leading up to the marquee pay-per-view. But if they want it to be an unforgettable feud, the next three weeks are going to be vital.

It all begins with a musical contest next week on RAW. It's certainly must-see TV and hopefully it helps the storyline reach maximum potential.
