WWE Rumors: Randy Orton, The Rock, Wade Barrett and Monday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsMar 5, 2012

WWE has a good thing going with the build to WrestleMania, and things figure to get even more intense tonight. The Rock and John Cena will be under the same roof again. Plus, Shawn Michaels is returning to confront Triple H about anything he wants because he is HBK.

The build for this pay-per-view makes you wonder what WWE is thinking the rest of the year. It is clear the people in charge know how to build a show that people care about.

Regardless of what might happen in the future, we are going to enjoy the here and now. Speaking of which, here is the latest news and notes from the world of WWE.

RANDY ORTON HAS A FAN IN DDP

Diamond Dallas Page's WWE run was botched—like every other WCW star—but he said in an interview that he would be willing to come back for a one-off match with Randy Orton if the situation ever presented itself.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Would an Orton-Page match be that bad for WWE?

Our Take: It would actually be entertaining. Sure, Page is 55 years old, but he has the knowledge of the sport to put together a good match. Certainly it would be more entertaining than watching Kane try to convince Orton to embrace some hate, or whatever he's doing now.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Variations of the Diamond Cutter

Orton would be able to squeeze a good match out of Page. He has gotten so much better in the ring of late, and his stock should be soaring even though he is on the show that no one in the office pays attention to.

CARLITO WON'T STAB THE ROCK IN THE BACK

In the never-ending saga of "Who's hating on the Rock now?" former WWE star Carlito is chiming in with his opinion on what the silent critics should be talking about with the Great One back wrestling again.

"

The "boys" should be happy that mania will be a big success and fans shouldnt even really care as to why rock is back.

— carlos colon (@carlitocolon) March 2, 2012"

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will the whining about Rock's return ever stop?

Our Take: No, it never will. Because Rock is going to go back to his day job after WrestleMania is over, then everyone will complain about him some more. Let's see if they keep whining when they get a nice fat paycheck, because the show did have one of the biggest buy rates ever.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Apples

Even though Carlito isn't in WWE anymore, he has a far greater understanding of the business than most of the wrestlers in the back. If he actually cared enough when he worked for the company, he could be wrestling on the show.

ALBERTO DEL RIO BACK IN ACTION

It has been a couple weeks since we have had an update on Del Rio's status, but his return to television appears imminent. Reports from house shows over the weekend indicated that he was, in fact, wrestling again.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is WrestleMania going to happen for Del Rio?

Our Take: There are still slots on the card to be filled out, but something would have to be done tonight if WWE wants to really build his return match as anything more than just another guy working on a big show.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 White Neck Towels

WWE is going to need all the roster help it can get after WrestleMania. When you look at who is leaving after April 1—The Rock (though he will appear on the Raw after the show), Triple H, Undertaker, Chris Jericho (?)—it's not pretty.

WADE BARRETT OUT FOR A LONG TIME

When Barrett first injured his arm, there was some hope that he might be able to make it back for WrestleMania. Unfortunately that hope was washed away over the weekend, when it was announced he had surgery and will be out of action for three to four months.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will this kill his momentum?

Our Take: WWE tends to forget about stars—with some obvious exceptions—when they are injured, so when they come back there is nothing for them to do. Hopefully that doesn't happen here, because Barrett was hitting his stride as a performer.

Hype Meter: 3 out of 5 Doctors of Doom

You really have to feel bad for Barrett in this situation. Not only does he miss out on a WrestleMania payday, but he is at the mercy of the creative team to come up with something for him to do when he does return.
