WWE News: Former TNA Star Heading Back to WWE?

Graham GSM MatthewsJun 5, 2018

Last week, it was reported that Brian Kendrick had parted ways with TNA Wrestling due to his removal from the company's roster page. He hadn't been used on television much since Bound for Glory last October, so his release didn't come as a major surprise to anyone.

However, WrestlingInc.com reported earlier today that the former X-Division star is likely on his way back to WWE for a heavily rumored Cruiserweight program. It stated:

"

A number of people within WWE believe that Brian Kendrick will be returning to the company later this year to be involved in the new Cruiserweights project on the WWE Network.

Kendrick was recently released from TNA after being signed to a series of short-term contracts. Kendrick said on his Facebook page this week that he was released after asking to be let go. Kendrick said he wanted more work but TNA wouldn't give it to him.

Kendrick told the Lowdown Unlimited show this past week that he has kicked the marijuana habit and is open to working for WWE again.

With other smaller talent such as Tyson Kidd, Trent Barreta and Evan Bourne also likely to appear for the show, I'm truly excited for what Kendrick can bring to the dying division.

If this also indicates the return of the Cruiserweight Championship that was retired a few years back, this pending program could turn out to be a major success.

In mid-2009, Brian Kendrick was repackaged as "The" Brian Kendrick after being shipped over to the SmackDown brand. He picked up a number of victories upon his arrival, including a victory over former World Champion Jeff Hardy.

A few months later, Kendrick received the biggest push of his career when he was put in contention for the WWE Championship along with four other Superstars at the Unforgiven event. Although he came up short, the former WWE Tag Team Champion made a big enough impact to foreshadow him as a future star in WWE.

Sadly, officials dropped the ball on his character thereafter, as he and his associate Ezekiel Jackson came up short of winning the WWE Tag Team Championships a few months later. Once Kendrick was moved over to the Raw brand that April, he was hardly used and departed the company that summer.

Whether he portrays his old cocky gimmick or not, it would certainly be better than the outcast he played in TNA. That moniker never really seemed to click with the fans, who called for his short reign as X-Division Champion before his eventual release.

This coming November, I hope this rumor prove to be true and see Brian Kendrick return to WWE once again. As said before, he holds major potential in WWE, at one point being referred to as a younger version of Shawn Michaels due to the similar build-up and skill set.

Check back for more updates as they come available. Make sure to drop a comment below with your thoughts on the return of Brian Kendrick to WWE and what you believe the future holds for the young star.
