WWE Smackdown Results: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

WWE Smackdown was fairly average tonight. The wrestling was fine, and the promos were good. There was just nothing "must see" going on. For a grade, I fall in the C range for the Blue Brand this week.

The Good

I enjoyed the opening segment. Sheamus is a star, and he proved it yet again tonight. After a few minutes, Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler came out to talk.

Of course, Teddy Long eventually made a match between the two, which was also fine. Sheamus defeated Dolph, just as he should. The Royal Rumble winner shouldn't lose until Mania, so this was a positive in my book.

Santino Marella beat Heath Slater in a short match. I am a fan of the Cobra, so it was an entertaining win for him. Job well done!

Eve Torres was great tonight. She had a funny backstage segment with Natalya, and their match was just as good. I really liked these two interacting here. The announcers put this over so well that I was laughing non-stop throughout.

It seems as if Nattie has all but turned face, while Eve has moved into her new character. WWE has done a masterful job with these two divas the past month, and I applaud them!

Cody Rhodes cut a good promo. He focused on Big Show and his Wrestle Mania record. That was a smart idea, as their Mania match is now official with the Intercontinental Championship on the line.

After this, Big Show defeated Mark Henry in a wonderful match. These two work well together, and tonight was no different.

Also, I must give huge props to the WWE production team. Their videos are always top notch, and I really enjoyed The Rock and John Cena's Raw recap. Their match at Mania was put over as being huge, as the countdown continues to the biggest match of all time on April 1, 2012.

I liked Drew McIntyre finally being fired. This took a few weeks too many to happen, but it is now finished. He is now free to join Raw, Johnny Ace, or both! The next step for his career will be unfolded very soon.

The main event was pretty good. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan have had a great match in the past, and this one was worthy of its main-event spot. The ending was not very "clean," but that was to be expected.

I liked Kane interfering, and I will explain why in a future article over the weekend. His attack on Mr. RKO was very well done, and I look forward to what these two will do in the near future.

As for next week's Raw and Smackdown? Wow! Let's just say I am very interested...

The Bad

Justin Gabriel defeated Drew McIntyre, thus costing the "Chosen One" his job. I was fine with the outcome, but how will this help Gabriel? Is he going to get some sort of push out of this?

Will we find out next week? If not, anybody other than Gabriel could have been Drew's opponent here to send him off of Smackdown. I will wait and see, though.

The Ugly

Discounting the weather in Wisconsin, there was only one ugly topic today.

Vickie Guerrero looked amazing tonight. Her appearance has changed a lot in the past few years, yet the "jokes" continue about her look. I could understand them years ago, but that time is over.

She looks great, and I am very proud of her. The "jokes" can continue, but they just don't make sense anymore. It may be time for WWE to get some new material on making fun of Vickie every week...
